The article above is from a Catholic organization. This is a religious issue for them, because it involves the HPV vaccine, but the issue is obviously much larger than that.

If you are in California and don't like the thought of your 12 year old getting vaccines without your knowledge, please contact your state representatives.

This bill was passed by both House and Senate!

Please contact Governor Jerry Brown to ask him to veto it.

If Governor Brown does nothing, the bill will automatically become law on October 9, 2011. Other states will most likely follow California, so please contact him even if you are in another state.

It's still available on his website so I emailed him again. I really hope this doesn't mess up so many lives. My daughter already decided on her own not to do it because she's "not sure it's a good idea." She's also homeschooled so the pressure isn't on her as hard as it will be on public school kiddos, but I seriously don't understand the idea that revoking parent's rights is a good thing for children.

If they do this, then there should also be a law saying that if a 12 year old wants to refuse a vaccination that his parents want him to have, then he should have that right.

ghannit likes this.

Most children already can refuse vaccinations and other medical treatments.  The vast majority of 12-year-olds would fall under this provision:
