In the Learning at Home forum, I posted about The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)'s efforts to promote spanking as a "parent's rights" issue.
My post was a warning to homeschoolers that if they belong to HSLDA, their membership dues are being used to publicly support spanking and to lobby against various state efforts to expand existing abuse laws to include spanking.
I am hoping that those of us who feel spanking is a grave wrong against children can gather here to exchange opportunities for activism. Here is what I am currently doing:
- protesting HSLDA's support of spanking as a "parental right" on the HSLDA Facebook page, which is public
- informing other homeschoolers about HSLDA's position on spanking
- sharing this link, which announces the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s recent condemnation of spanking: http://www.news10.net/news/watercooler/199991/335/Church-says-no-to-spanking-kids?fb_ref=artsharetop&fb_source=timeline
I am also planning to distribute anti-spanking literature from Project NoSpank http://www.nospank.net to local churches this fall.
Please share other ideas or opportunities for anti-spanking activism.
