It just seems that even though the marines are expected to leave Afganistan in 2014, they still deserve their daily hot meal. They are hard working and doing everything to protect our country. Why take away their food?

Happy to hear they are drawing down. Sounds like they aren't losing ALL their hot meals, simply a middle of the night one and they can have an MRE as a replacement. Which, btw, if you've never seen them...they can be eaten hot! They come with a self-heating packet. When my dh was deployed to Iraq in Desert Storm, they went weeks without a cooked hot meal and ate just MREs. They can survive just fine :)  It isn't 'fun', but they do know this before they sign up! I think losing one hot meal a day for the night shift folks is a small price to pay for drawing down and leaving!

I think anyone who serves to protect our country deserves a hot meal. MRE's were supposed to be reserved for emergency situations.

I don't think this is as big of a deal as they are making it out to be. This is a midnight meal, it isn't like it is their dinner. They're cutting the meal because almost no one uses it. Even if they are working night shift, they can do dinner and breakfast the next morning as hot meals.
