sorry I don't have a link at the moment. I saw it on the evil network news :LOL A judge has approved a class action lawsuit against Walmart on behalf of their female employees for discrimination in the work place. The judge found grounds for a class action suit based on female workers being paid less and limited amounts of female employees in management across the country and at all levels of the company.

They are speculating it will effect over 1 million female Walmart employees and be worth over a billion dollars.

I was wondering when this would get it's own thread. I was going to post one but it was mentioned on the other NFL/Walmart thread. I hope Walmart gets what they deserve..... whatever that may be. If my Goddess has her way.......... :

I was glad when I read this news. I was passed over twice for a promotion - once for a childless employee and once for a male employee (from a different department, no less!) Walmart needs to shape up.

Was going to start a thread about it myself. Amazing. Even gladder that I've never been in a Wal-Mart. Though this is going to take forever to litigate ... so all 1.6 million women will get a total of, oh, about $1.57 out of the eventual settlement, since Wal-Mart will settle to avoid protracted bad press/publicity brought on by a trial. Oh, and the plaintiff's lawyers will get at least several million in fees.

SOP.

Yet another reason to boycott Walmart.......You know, I thought I was ok, I could live with myself for only going there 2 or 3 times a year, but after this news.......I wont step foot in another walmart.

If anyone has a link I'd love to pass it along to my many family members who let my comments go in one ear and out the other with the classic response, "But their stuff is so cheap."

I was passed over for promotion twice also - both times for younger, less experienced, less qualified males.

Of course, I ended up getting myself fired for questioning the dress code policy ... "Why is it in the MA part of this district body piercings and facial piercings are allowed in good taste, yet in the NH part of this district they aren't? And Why is it that Elvis (male, bosnian, immigrant) is allowed to wear an eyebrow piercing, but I'm not?"

Suspended, pending termination, and haven't set foot in the store for 63 days.

Even the plaintiffs have said the money is not the issue. The point is to force Walmart of change their discriminating practices. And over a billion dollars divided into 1.6 million employees is more that 1.50.

"Earlier this month Wal-Mart announced a new job classification and pay structure for hourly associates," Williams said. "This new pay plan was developed with the assistance of third-party consultants and is designed to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness."
They couldn't come up with that *before*? This lawsuit is in the making 3 years (that they know of) and last month they finally have a pay structure for hourly associates. :Puke
