If you're in Illinois, you probably already know what's going on wrt disability funding cuts statewide, but if you've not yet heard, here's the mini scoop:

Governor Blagojevich has proposed a 60.9 MILLION DOLLAR statewide cut for disability funding. In some counties this means a nearly complete loss of services for Early Intervention and other youth services. My local service organization is losing 1/4 of it's annual state funding. There are several mental health facilities in my area that are just a few weeks away from closing their doors entirely if the cuts go through.

THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

Illinois DOES need funding cuts, but it's outrageous that there has been a greater public outcry about closing several large state parks than there has been in response to the disability funding cuts.

IF YOU LIVE IN ILLINOIS, CONTACT YOUR LOCAL REP AND SENATOR TODAY!

Governor B has called a Special Session for Monday, 9/22 to vote just on his pet ethics bill. We're waiting for Emil Jones to set the date for another Regular Session so our senators and reps can vote to restore this vital funding. CALL YOUR LOCAL OFFICES and tell your reps to not only support restoring the funds but also to push Jones to allow a vote on that restoration during the new regular session.

It's a shame to close the state parks, but we can all live without a few green areas. Thousands of people's life outcomes depend on disability and social service funding. Tell our reps and senators to restore that funding!
