Okay, I'm having a lot of fun with the Lord of the Rings 20 questions game. The OP of that thread mentioned that she's playing a Harry Potter one else where.... so why not start one here. It sounds like fun to me. Anyone else wanna join?

Same rules apply, yes or no questions only, one question per post.
Person, Place or Thing.
Oh, and in order to simplify things... I declare that the term person applies to humans, part or pure, both muggles and magicians as well as including members of species that have 'near human intelligence' to quote Deloris Umbridge.
All 7 books are fair game.

Answers may be used only once.

Thus far we have done:
Dobby

Is it an animal? if you're using a 'scientific' definition of animal, yes, a 'colloquial' one, not necessarily.

I want to further clarify my first answer, there seems to be some confusion. It is not what would normally in every day conversation be referred to as an animal, but, if it existed in the real world, it would be considered part of the 'animal kingdom' by science.

HINT: This individual is a member of a species that Deloris Umbridge might (though she did not do so directly in the books) refer to as being of 'near human intelligence'.

I thought maybe you meant kneazles, like Crookshanks but then you gave that hint.

That's what she called centaurs, but someone else already guessed that and you said no, so now I'm confused.

Is it a specific centaur? As in Firenze?

Is it a specific centaur? no As in Firenze? Since I've needlessly confused people, I'm not going to count this one, but instead give another hint, hopefully a better one... Think service industry.

13. a mermaid ? no

and I'm going to make a suggestion... something I originally meant, but neglected to state outright (since my husband informs me this games is sometimes played as vegetable/animal/mineral, though I've never done so, and thus was taken off guard by the first question), which is to play it as person, place or thing ...
and having gained this experience, expand the definition of person I originally proposed to include such things that have 'near human intelligence' like giants, centaurs, house elves, mermaids, were wolves, etc...

Is it Dobby?

For what it's worth, I think 'animal or vegetable, mineral' is not helpful, and I prefer 'person, place or thing'.

We had this problem in the LotR 20 questions thread. How to define those 'persons' who aren't humans but aren't obviously animals.

Someone moved my effing cheese.

Oye, I'm kinda relieved my turn is over I think I like guessing better

I'm off to amend the original post to include members of species that have 'near human intelligence'.
