I just finished the books. I watched movie before I read the books. I think that they did a great job selecting the cast....I think the acting was ok... I loved the books though... I think my favorite was the fourth..it is so crazy, I think Stephanie Meyer could have made it into two books.

Anyway, my husband bought me a copy of the movie and I almost felt guilty about it since Im in LUV with RP.

If you watch any of Kristin's other movies, she acts pretty much the same as she does in Twilight. I'm not saying I don't enjoy watching her, but she doesn't seem to have much of a range.

that aside! I LOVE the movie. LOVE. like as in I want to marry it love. the books, too.
This is pretty much how I feel too. So much head shaking! And the hospital scene was atrocious. That said, I've seen the move at least 10 times. :

Did anyone else notice that Edward, Emmett and Jasper all wore the same wrist band with what i'm assuming to be the Cullen crest. Rosalie wore a necklace with the same crest and Alice wore it as a choker. Not sure about Esme or Carlisle though.

I didn't notice -- how many times did you watch it to catch that ?
I'm a little embarassed to say that now I want to watch it to see it and then look to see where I could obtain one. How crazy is it that I want one without even knowing what it looks like?

I LOVE stuff like that. Did you notice when the Cullens first make an appearance in the film, all of them wear some white clothing except Edward?

DD and I just watched this again today while I tidied the closet. It's so much fun to pick on this film!

I read the first novel because I heard that the writing was really bad and wanted to see what I could get away with and still get published. I only made it 2/3 through and couldn't be bothered with the rest.

Out of curiousity my dh and I watched the movie last night and honestly we laughed through the whole thing. He thought the plot was ridiculous and I am positive the soundtrack was ripped from various porn flicks. Very cheesy.

Considering how big the book is I'm really surprised that they made such a muck of the movie. The acting was bad and the way it was filmed was horrible.

Kristen has really amazing eyes but I found that to be the only redeemable thing about her. Robert is meh and his character is creepy/stalkerish.

I did love seeing Elizabeth Reaser (Esme) in this. She has the most amazing smile. Love her.

Limette - I found both amazingly compelling resulting in my current case of Twilight fever. That being said I certainly understand that all appreciation is in the eye of the beholder. Reading romantic fantasy with a critical eye, certainly pulls one out of the moment.

The only statement of yours that I'm confused by is this

"Considering how big the book is I'm really surprised that they made such a muck of the movie."

It seems to me that the longer the book, the more likely they are to make a muck of the movie! Movies are limited by time, usually two hours. In books understanding someone's motives is simple but putting that on screen can be quite tricky. I loved the movie Twilight but I don't think that it's near as good as the book. The only movies that I thought were as good as their books were
To Kill a Mockingbird - - relatively short novel
Pride and Prejudice -- 6 hour movie!
Shawshank Redemption -- short story
I don't think that the movie was a great piece of film, but I did find it thoroughly enjoyable. I just felt the need to defend it, I'm not upset. (Now going off to sit at the Twilight geek table )

I read the books and just watched the movie last night. I thought it was OK. The first half of it dragged for me, but then I got really into it. As a whole I would call it average, but I thought there were a few scenes that were just spectacular.

When they are first in the woods and Edward puts his hands on the rock on either side of Bella and she says "Now, I'm scared"

The first kiss

the character james - very well played I thought

I really, really hated Jasper in the movie. He looked like a zombie - it was awful.

And, I am going to watch it again tonight, to pick up things I missed

I resisted for a long time, but I've finally fallen into the obsession.

I heard so many bad things about the first book, I didn't even read it until several months *after* seeing the movie with my mom and sister. (A rare girls' night out! Happy.) The writing was stilted and I felt that her word choice was repetitive and at times inaccurate for what I thought she was trying to convey. But she definitely got a better editor on the second one and the plot and characterization started to really shine through.

Aaand now I'm rereading the series for the second time and I have the DVD, much to dh's amusement. The writing is awkward but the story is good. I totally got pulled in. I read the last three books in a day each.

As far as the movie goes, the score is really what gets me. The lullaby, the song they snuck in by Muse...it's all matched really well to what's going on in the scene and just enhances the movie beautifully.

Limette - Sorry for the misunderstanding. You certainly weren't the only one who didn't like the movie. They did switch director for #2, New Moon. Of course, if you don't like the story than I doubt that the movies will work for you.

Delphine -- I really liked the casting for most of the vampires, but I felt like Jasper looked much more like Edward Scissorhands! He's going to have to vamp it up in the future movies so hopefully with better makeup and acting he can pull it off.

earthmama369 -- Isn't the music compelling? I feel like the director used some odd camera angles at times, but in general, the mood that she created with the scenery and music just sucked me in. I know that music is huge to Stephenie Meyer in her writing so hopefully that will continue in New Moon even with the new director.

KYCat, I've watched it a few to many times according to my DH. The first few times i thought it was a watch and then i realised that Emmett had one too. Then i noticed Rosalie's necklace and then it just clicked. You can see Jaspers when they are in the car driving to Phoenix and him and Alice are holding hands

Another one on the obsession wagon here!
I tried to avoid the madness, and actually saw the movie before reading the books. I liked the movie, but LOVED the books. No, the writing isn't spectacular, but I'm a sucker for a great love story, and it was fun to read.
I love Robert Pattinson as Edward, but Kristen Stewart's Bella comes off as more of an obnoxious teenager than the Bella I pictured in the books. Bella in the books is more mature & has more of a nurturing personality. I didn't like that the "dazzling" from the books was left out of the movie. I did see the pain in Edward's eyes, though. I thought Rob conveyed that anguish well. I loved that some of Rob's music was included in the score. I'm hoping that the new director will do better with plot development in New Moon, but I'm sure I'll love it anyway .

I didn't like the movie the first time I saw it but I liked it more the second time. And third time and fourth time, etc. It's very cheesy in places but it's a "flesh and blood" Bella and Edward and you have to appreciate that. They have fabulous chemistry and it was fun seeing their story on screen. I loved the last scene a lot!

I didn't like James' character. It was just overplayed and cheesy! And Angela annoyed me too. The hospital scene at the end was yuck but I loved Bella, Edward, Jacob and Charlie. And all the Cullens! Glad they stuck pretty close to the storyline in the book. I'm looking forward to New Moon!

when he puts his arms around her on the rock---

the night that the movie came out in theaters, my dd and I were there and at that point in the flick there was a loud gasp, sigh, whatever sound you want to call it from every female in the house.

myself included.

My 10 year old got me hooked. I thought the movie was eh--there was alot missing, I guess that's what compelled me to read the books. I just finished New Moon for the second time and am reading Midnight Sun again while I wait for payday so I can get Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I also can't wait to get to the store so DD can buy the soundtrack and score with her birthday money.

I so hope that's true. Cannot wait for Midnight Sun. And I agree, that should be more interesting than Bella's perspective. The part that she already wrote is super cool. Totally Edward obsessed here

It is almost a month and a half since I've seen the movie first time and I am still totally hooked. I've read all the 4 books and now finishing the Breaking Dawn audiobook (talking about obsessed). I prefer paper books, but having all the books in an audio format makes it to a slightly different experience. Now, I fall asleep listening to the books on my iPod - I get such a cool dreams that way

Speaking about the movie, I didn't like how some of the actors were casted. For example, I think casting of Jasper and Rosalie is kind of off.
Rosalie is supposed to be drop dead gorgeous, but in the movie she is not even good looking. At the first shot in the cafeteria, she wears some awful jeans bleached on her a**. Totally not appropriate.
Jasper supposed to be an ex-warrior, a fighter. But in the movie he looks like a moron. Carlisle's hair looks terrible too.
On the other hand, Alice and Emmett are perfect. Exactly how I pictured them.

Does it mean I'm obsessed because my favorite thread on mdc is the twilight thread

I agree abou the Rosalie casting...I think she's pretty but the books make here sound like she's so stunningly beautiful.

I still haven't read the online book...I'm trying to wait it out and see if it's going to come out on book. How long is it?

I want to be Alice when I grow up. I'll leave Jasper, snag Jacob and we'll double date with Bella and Edward.

Please don't bother me with details about imprinting. I'm having a fantasy moment here.

I totally agree. I thought Jasper looked like he had something up his..., and Rosalie was not pretty enough. I didn't like Alice until the baseball scene. And in my view of Edward and Jacob, Edward acted more like my DH, and Jacob looked like him!

I'm gonna agree. Nikki Reed is gorgeous. No human can look like Stephenie described the vamps as looking, so I'm not holding anyone to super human standards. When I went to the premier, this young girl in the bathroom was complaining that the vamps were pretty, but not gorgeous. And then she said "I mean, they could have gotten Victoria Secret models!" To which I thought "Yes, but then they wouldn't have been able to act..." I'll gladly settle for a little less gorgeous in exchange for acting ability.
