Yea, you have to re-learn all the "vampire rules" for every book. The SS novels took me till book 3 to get into because I was coming right off the Twilight series and I kept comparing them. I may need to re-read 1 and 2. I really like the "rules" in twilight, they romanticize vampires even more than most do.

Hi!

I'm currently re-reading the whole Twilight series. On Eclipse right now. I don't have a copy of Breaking Dawn and keep looking for it at Wal-mart. Are they just not selling it? Barnes and Noble has it... for nearly twice the price! I'll wait. maybe. Unfortunatly, the library never has it either. Half-price books had it en Espanol!

I finally read Midnight Sun. Stayed up all night long -- only way to read 264 pages on the computer with a 3yo & 6mo! It was delish!!! Absolutely loved it. Then I watched the Twilight movie for a second time and Rob Pattinson's performance made a lot more sense. The first time I saw it I wondered what the heck he thought he was doing -- it seemed so different from Twilight the book. Now I know! I hope she finishes it. Mostly just so I can read it again without having to stay up all night!

SM mantioned in her note on Midnight Sun that if she finished it while angry that it would end differently. I think that would be an interesting read!! Like an alternate Twilight universe where you have no idea what comes next anymore. Like they did with the newest Star Trek movie.

Well, my 3yo just climbed up. Later!

Learning & growing & changing everyday!

I just finished new moon and really like the series. That said Bella kinda drives me nuts. She's so helpless and woozy and dizzy all. the. time. And enough with how beautiful the Cullens are already just move the storyline on. It kinda drags sometimes.

Bella forgave Edward way too easily. She didn't even give Edward a hard time for taking off.

And HELLO Jacob is so much hotter than Edward!! Kiss him already!!

I think I'm done now. :

i got mad b/c i think bella should be much more pissed off that everyone in her life thinks they know what is best for her better then she does... i mean come on stop making decisions based on what you think is best for her and just listen to what she says is best for her. she's not 2 for goodness sake

She's not 2 but she is 17/18 yr old in a relationship with someone who is over 100. She is contemplating entering a lifestyle that she cannot get out of once she is in and she has only experienced a strange fringe of the group. While she is not a child, compared to those around her, she is very childlike. I do feel like their is a definite progression through the books as Edward realizes that while he is older and wiser, if he wants to be in a relationship with Bella he has to allow her to decide what it will be that will make her happy. (Of course he realizes this because when he tries to do things to make her happy, it just seems to backfire.)

(DH just walked by and read over my shoulder. He was very confused by whom was in a relationship with someone who was over 100. He also pointed out that the relationship wouldn't be much of a problem since he would die soon -- I pointed out that vampires are immortal. At which point he realized it was Twilight and just decided that he'd go on to bed. I'll be better someday )

I also really like Jacob and it drove me crazy the way Bella was treating him in both Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I felt so bad for him! OOOPPPS! I better not say more since you have not read them yet. I like Edward too but he sometimes gets on my nerves. his reactions are so extreme and I agree that Bella lets him off the hook to quickly! For me personally I could not have a boy friend who was so perfect. I think I am the type who would go for Jake.
DH would be really amused if he knew I was having a discussion like this about a teen novel!

what i always wondered about is the line when jacob says edward is like a drug to her and he would have been the air and the sun.... i actually really like edward but the fact that she agrees with this statement always made me wonder why she stayed with him instead of jacob yk?

the whole being intoxicated by his presence thing really bugged me actually... i think if it were me i would always wonder if i really loved him or if he just smelled so good i thought i did ... but really she would always give in or w/e every time he breathed on her... and he says how everything about him draws them in (except apparently everyone is also repelled by them.. ???) wouldn't both of them think she loved him b/c being around him made her so looped out?

that is really disjointed but do you get what i am asking?

i'm rereading twilight and something occured to me. when edward takes bella to the nurse he asks for her to be excused from gym so he can take her home and she agrees. isn't it illegal to let a minor leave school early with anyone but the parent/guardian or written permission from the parent/guardian?

Probably, but he "dazzles" people. He gets away with a lot of things.

No laughing here. Everytime Jacob was described in New Moon I sighed with pleasure. I'll take one of those please. My Dh is tall, strong and broad shouldered as well.

Edward is pasty and cold.

I'm wondering if Bella ever er... gets any? If you know what I mean. Or do things like that not happen in YA books?

don't read this until you finish breaking dawn!!!

that was one of the reasons i thought it would make a good fantasy/ sci fi book as opposed to young adult. i find the way she handles anything more than kissing a bit annoying. even in breaking dawn she walks into the water and then its the next day. its not like i wanted a play by play or anything but there is a happy medium between skipping from the moment she is in the water to the next morning and erotic fiction yk? maybe i read to many fantasy romance novels but that sort of bugged me.

I think its funny that I almost tried to defend edward. lol these books are crazy!

I am not a fan of jacob. I could barely read the parts of the books with him in it. especially in eclipse. The fact that he couldnt respect bella's love for edward made me mad. and the fact that bella kept stringing him along was infuriating.

Its so funny too, that different tastes must be what makes the world go round- I look at the poster and think "who would EVER choose jacob over edward?"

my good friend is obsessed with jacob and thinks that bella should have chosen him instead. It boggles my mind

I completely agree with you. I really liked Jacob in New Moon, but in Eclipse he just drove me crazy. And Breaking Dawn.

Now between Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, I'd totally choose Taylor.

WOW !!!! I try and not obsess and don't check the thread until afternoon, and it's taken off!

Dr. Worm & ParisApril -- I'm totally Team Edward but I loved Jacob throughout NM. He was so good. When they went to the movies with Mike Newton and Jacob says, "Bella doesn't like music." I just SWOON every time (yes I've read it a couple times). To have someone so sweet, thoughtful and Observant, oh my. My heart just breaks for him. Love's never a fair fight - Edward already had her heart, so deservedly or not, he'll always come in second. If she'd fallen for Jacob first I think that it would have been a 'fairer' contest and I can't decide who would win. In Eclipse I found the situation frustrating but given that I felt like I understood their behavior, yk?

Dr. Worm -- I didn't like Edward butting in on Jacob's sweet thing either! I do understand how frustrated he was by not being able to give her gifts and I loved his explanation of his component, but I don't think that it compared to Jacob's. In that little "competition" in my mind Jacob won.

I tried to be vague and talk around what I wanted to say there, to do as little spoiling as possible but for the next part I can't so please proceed with caution --

*** BD Spoiler Alert ***

1littlebit -- I loved BD but hated the way that was handled. I could even take the glossing over of the act [but it was weird since she usually tells us incredible details of the very limited physical relationship they have. Then *it* happens and nothing???] What I couldn't understand at all is that *it* finally happens and there is apparently NO cuddly discussion afterward she is just immediately knocked out?? I'm sure that Edward is amazing and clearly I'm a talker, but the impression that I got was that there was no communication until the morning. It just rang false to me. I can see the argument not happening until the morning when the marks would be there, but I would have liked the immediate discussion, where they are BOTH amazed! I loved BD but I would have loved a little more bedroom info and it seems like there could be more and still be YA.

One time when DH and I were dating in high school exactly that happened. We were in my parents basement and we fell asleep right after. It's a good thing he woke up a short time later or I would have had very angry parents in the AM.

Too bad they don't give details. Darn YA book. She should write an adult version. By "adult version" I mean grown up, not pornographic.

exactly!! i was like... um gee... they have this whole major intense relationship both physically and emotionally and she doesn't even have any talking during or after they have sex... i read it and the first thing that popped into me head was "you wimp what a cop out!" i know things like that are hard to write without sounding cheesy but she could have written some dialogue... like emotional stuff w/o writing anything physical yk?

and paris - i totally understand!! the first thing i read in harry potter and the dealthy hallows was the epilogue... i wanted to know ahead of time if harry, ron, hermione, or ginny died i also read the end of New Moon first.. i wanted to know if they got back together. i was considering not reading the rest of the series if they didn't lol

lol i was so mad when he broke up with her... and that his whole family left without saying goodbye. the book said they did it b/c edward asked them too but alice was really close to bella...she was her friend too not just her brothers g/f and i think it was kind of cruel for her to leave w/o saying good bye just b/c it was what edward wanted or thought was best or w/e. alice should have known bella would have wanted her to say goodbye.

also ... did anyone else think that edward and bella had an awfully intense relationship for a YA book? most of the YA books i read now and read growing up had normal teenage relationships... this one was wicked intense.

1littlebit- I thought it was very intense. And while I understand the intensity to some degree having had intense feelings for years about the first guy I ever liked as more than a friend. The story was almost too intense for me though. I wouldn't want my teenage daughter thinking about a guy in that way. Way too much talk of suicide for my liking.

Did anyone else think it was odd that at the end of New Moon when Bella didn't want to marry Edward. How could you be willing to become immortal to be with a guy and yet you won't marry him? Come on now. I think Bella would have done ANYTHING to be with Edward. She would have been able to get past her issues around marriage in a heartbeat.
