Yay! I might re-read the others but to be honest I've read them so many times I'm not sure it's necessary.

There was supposed to be 2 more books but I guess Auel figured that at her age an the amount of time it takes her to research and write a book she probably wouldnt get it done. She is or will be 74 yo soon.

I have high hopes for this book. I was disappointed with SOS a bit. I want closure for sure.

I really hope she is able to bring closure to everything. I really feel here are a lot of things that have been left very unresolved.

I usually prefer paperbacks (I read in the bath) but I can't wait an extra year for it.

I know what I'm getting for my birthday (It's in March)

My bday is in March to I am the same way prefer paperback much easier reading in the bath that way. But I will get the hardback then trade it in for a paperback when it becomes available.

Then I have to get it on CD as well because I listen to the books going to sleep at night I have actually worn out 3 cd players in the last 9 years listening to them

I also have a March birthday and now know what I'm going to ask for. I'm so excited for a new book--will need to reread the last 2 or 3 to refresh my memory (I seem to reread everytime a new one comes out).

Wow. I was wondering if she'd write it in time!

This is awful, but I'm going to have to reread the books. There a big chunks that I can't remember. The earlier books I've read more than once, but the later ones... Plus it seems like some of them are painfully long. Which one was it? Plains of passage?

Yeah, one of them it felt like 75% of the book was describing the landscape. I kept flipping through until the words "flowers" and "grasses" stopped appearing so often.

I'm having mixed feelings about this... was I the only one that really didn't like the 5th book? Loved the first 4, but the 5th was such a HUGE disappointment.

Most people do see #5 as a disappointment. For instance the birth of Jonayla wasnt made into the big deal I thought it should have been along with the repetitive "someday" thing.

I worry this book will leave us hanging about Ayla and Jon and there are so many questions I want closure to. So yeah I have mixed feelings as well.

I feel the same. I loved the first four books. I still haven't made it through the 5th book. I recently found it, years after starting it, with the bookmark still about halfway through. Maybe I'll try again. I hope the 6th book is better though.

I read the series quite a few years ago. Loved the first 4 books and was so excited for the 5th but then never finished it. Maybe I'll pick it up again and read the 6th when it's out. My mom and her husband really liked the series, too, so I've let my mom know the 6th is coming!

I actually enjoyed book 5 a bit better than book 4, to be honest. The story in book 4 was reasonably good, and I did enjoy some aspects of the travel. But, between the constant descriptions of the landscape and the constant descriptions of sex, and the way Jondalar's character kept annoying me (the whole "I love Ayla more than anything, and I would be devastated if anything happened to her, but I want to get home, and I want to make the glacier crossing even though I know it puts our lives at risk and she's sick of traveling, because I am all about me" bit), I did feel a bit let down.

If anybody can't tell, Jondalar isn't my favourite character in literature...

I'm actually in the middle of book #4 right now. I am getting really irritated with Jon being a self-absorbed brat. I'm really sick of her showing off her incredible knowledge of migration patterns of animals during the Ice Age period. (Seriously lady, how many flippin times do you have to explain that this abundance could only happen because of the unique weather patterns... AHHHHHHH.) And I'm pregnant with zero libido so the sex scenes are irritating the crud out of me. I think I only read the rest of the series because in my heart I just can't accept that the first three books are so good and it gets as bad as it does. I had been debating with myself if I am going to reread #5 but if #6 is coming out I will wait a few months before reading it.

*cross fingers*

My advice may not be appropriate for you. That's ok. You are just fine how you are and I am the right kind of me.

Suppose I'll have to search to see what those titles are.
