I am in a book club. Most of the people are older than I am except for one woman, and most of them go to my church. We usually meet in the office of the preschool which is part of the church, but not part of the church, so we can have wine. :D Not that anyone seems to drink much of it. We always do a potluck, and sometimes we meet in people's homes. I live near the church, so when it was my turn to host, I just did it at my house.
The first meeting I ever attended was at a restaurant, though. The book was Motel Life by Willy Vlautin, and we went to a restaurant that was mentioned in the book. The woman who was hosting actually paid for us all, but she is generally not very active since I think she feels uncomfortable with the whole church aspect of it.
Anyway, our last book was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. We decided we that we would do genre, and each of us could pick one or two, so I signed up for sci-fi and humor. The Night Circus was our fantasy selection. I picked a book that isn't really science fiction, but it's one I wanted to read for awhile because a friend knows the author and was recommending it.
I still haven't picked a humorous novel.
I have no response for your post but I hope by bumping it up it'll get some attention!!

:) I realize I started it in the bookclub sub forum, which is about hosting a book club here, so I moved it to this forum.
My church has another book club, but it seems a little more prescribed. Then I went to another meeting where no one ever talked about the book.
