I'm attempting to increase my skills on the piano. I took lessons for a bit in high school, but wasn't very interested in it. Now I am just pactising/learning pieces on my own -- can't afford (time- or money-wise) lessons. So, I'm thinking that listening to good pianists will help me refine my playing, any recommendations?

I love listening to great piano music. But, even though I've been playing since
I was 5, most of them are beyond my abilities. So, although they're inspirational, don't know helpful it is on learning to play better. Couldn't hurt though!

I really like:

George Winston
Billy Joel
Elton John
Dave Brubeck Quartet
Harry Connick Jr.

I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of right now. If I see any more in my CD collection tonight, I'll post back.

Oh - I also found that the book "Piano For Dummies" was pretty good for learning some of the basics about chords, etc. I got it from my library.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll see if my library has them.

Oh, I'm sure they are far beyond my playing abilities, yes I'm just looking for inspiration. I have a hard time putting any feeling or, I don't know, finesse or something into my playing. Even when there are dynamics marked, I'm so caught up in trying not to mess up which notes I'm playing, I don't think about putting anything else into it. :LOL I'm hoping listening to some pros will help.
