Hi all,

I'm trying to make a little CD up for my dd's 1st birthday. I wanted to put a bunch of different songs that had to do with motherhood, family, daughters, children, ect. So far I have about 5 songs. I need a few more. Help! What are your favorites? What makes you cry everytime you hear it and think of you sweet babies?

Here's what I have so far:

Calling the Moon, by Richard Shindell
Family, Dar Williams
Lovin in my Baby's Eyes, Taj Mahal/Leftover Salmon.
Somewhere over the Rainbow, Isreal Kamakawiwaole

I think I have a few more...I can't remember them off the top of my head. I need to go check the file

This isn't too much in with the daughter theme, but you do have boys, so you might still like it...Anita Baker's latest CD has a really sweet song called "Men in My Life".

My 2 favorites are by Carly Simon:

From her Hotcakes CD- Think I'm gonna have a baby http://www.carlysimon.com/music/Lyrics/Think_I'm_Gonna_Have_A_Baby.html

Love of My Life from her This is My Life CD.

I really like Love of My Life as it expresses exactly how I feel.
The lyrics are here: http://www.carlysimon.com/music/Lyri...f_My_Life.html

BTW, she changed the Woody Allen to Mia Farrow!

"Baby Mine" (from the movie, "Dumbo") and ....I forgot the artist and title (but you could google it easily) the song that goes "even tho' we ain't got money, I'm so in love with you honey..." When he sings "...and a little boy is mine..." I always just LOST it when I heard this song while pregnant! Don't know if it would have the same effect on me now, but it's so sweet how this daddy is in awe of his new baby and his wife, "The girl who holds the world in a paper cup..." ...yep! gettin' misty again!

I can't remember the name (it's way to late for my brain to be functioning right now), but Keali'i Reichel has a beautiful song dedicated to/about his mother. I used it on my labour CD.

Also when I was preggers with my son the Lauryn Hill song, was it Zion or something? Love that one too.

From Free to Be You and Me:
Free to Be You and Me title song
Sisters and Brothers
Parents are People

Decades go by and these songs remain as joyful as they were when I first heard them.

I've seen a couple of people mention Dar Williams' Family, but I have a new favorite from one of her more recent albums . . .

The One Who Knows (from Dar Williams' "The Beauty of the Rain")

Time it was I had a dream
You're the dream come true
If I had the world to give
I'd give it all to you

I'll take you to the mountains
I will take you to the sea
I'll show you how this life became
A miracle to me

You'll fly away
But take my hand until that day
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done
You'll be the one who knows

All the things you treasure most
Will be the hardest ones
I will watch you struggle on
Before the answers come

But I won't make it harder
I'll be there to cheer you on
I'll shine the light that guides you down
The road you're walking on

You'll fly away
But take my hand until that day
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done
You'll be the one who knows

Before the mountains call to you
Before you leave this home
I want to teach your heart to trust
As I will teach my own

But sometimes I will ask the moon
Where it shined upon you last
And shake my head and laugh and say
It all went by so fast

You'll fly away
But take my hand until that day
So when they ask how far love goes
When my job's done
You'll be the one who knows

I LOVE this song! The last time I saw her in concert was the first time I felt baby move, and when she sang this song I totally teared up. I am planning on using it at baby's naming ceremony next summer.
