Cooper's beautiful sad face is on the cover of this month's Vanity Fair. That is because it contains inside an excerpt from his memoir, called Dispatches From the Edge, being published this month!

He is an amazing writer. Emotional and stern. He is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and the brother of a suicide. His father is from Mississippi. I can't wait to get this book.

On New Orleans days after the flood:
Quote:
I'm not shocked anymore by the bodies, the blunders. You can't stay stunned forver. The anger doesn't go away, but it settles somewhere behind your heart; it deepens into resolve. I feel connected to what's around me, no longer just observing. I feel I am living it, breathing it. There is no hotel to go back to, isolated from the destrution, as there was when I covered the tsunami in Sri Lanka. We are surrounded, all day, all night. There's no escape. I wouldn't want to get away even if I could. I don't check my voice mail for messages. I don't call home. I never want to leave.

I don't know much about him, but Kathy Griffin just mentioned him in her new act on Bravo about how he is covering Hurricane Katrina in Prada. Don't know if that is true, but it made me curious about him. I will have to check out this book

We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

I watched him after the miners were trapped in WV. I saw live when he realized they were not all alive as had been reported. He was shocked, outraged, saddened... I love him. I think he is one of the good ones, man!

He WAS wearing Prada (and other designers) during the aftermath coverage. I remember some of the gossip blogs chatting about it back then.

Of course, my Cooper does not shop at Walmart. Perish the thought.

He's a Vanderbilt.

Wow. I didn't know any of this about him. I just remember him from Channel One in middle school.

I appreciate how, even as a journalist, he stays in touch w/his emotions and is more human-like than most journalists are.

I love him! Yes, he reports wearing prada and other designers. What do you expect? He's from a family of multi-millionaires. I love how honest he is and I've seen him cry on-air a few times and it was so touching (during the tsunami, katrina, the miners, and another time, too, i think). He's not as detached from the story as a lot of reporters are. He seems to really care. Oh, and did I mention that I think he is ?
This is me when I'm watching him:

But when he is standing over the bloated, run over corpse of someone's grandma does he need to be such a label whore?

I wouldn't call him a label whore! Jeez, come on, that's at least against the UA here.

His mom is a fashion designer! Remember her jeans? Well, you probably were too young.

He grew up in fabulous Manhattan apts alongside his parents' friends such as Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. Is he supposed to start shopping at Walmart? Start picking through clothing in thrift stores? I doubt he has the time anyway. He is always working and writing and traveling.

I think what he wears is irrelevant when it is covered in mud and his own sweat and tears.

not being a label whore is grounds for having one's gay card revoked

She was not a fashion 'designer'. Her name was licensed.

Well, I remember him from being on Channel One when I was in 7th grade, so I have dibs!!!

chersolly - he lives in nyc and had has plenty of money to buy designer clothes. What do you expect him to wear when he travels? Do you seriously want him to show up and go to the local wal-mart to buy clothes before reporting? That would be ridiculous!

:

If he was so worried about the labels, he probably wouldn't be covered in mud he'd be standing afar.
I didn't watch a whole lot of the hurricane Katrina coverage, b/c it just broke me down everytime I turned it on. I couldn't stand to watch it but I've heard nothing but good things about Anderson and his coverage.

I'm watching him right now on Oprah! He's so sweet! He and his mom were talking about his brothers suicide and I was in tears. He just seems very down to earth for someone with his background. I can't wait for the book!

Well, I'm staking claim, too... my ds was in a piece on his program. So there.

And I don't give rat's butt if he's gay or if he's wearing Prada either!
