Thanks wise mamas!

Well, I only have a second but saw the show last night and I have to say that I totally was into Joan. She sang great, especially Big Boss Man and just added a lot, she looked cool and her voice was great. I expected to not like her so much after seeing Chris Robinson last year with Phil but I was pleasantly surprised.
The second set rocked, Trey was out there with the band and did some vocals as well. I was a little let down by Trey and Mikes set and I am a fan. Just my opinion, but lots of people left during it. Trey and Mike played after the 2 Phil sets and I thought maybe Phil would come back out but never did. We were surprised at how many people left during Trey and MIke. I guess it was just a bit diffrent. Both DH and I have seen Phish since the beginning until the end and enjoyed last night but were not i "into" it, KWIM?
Happy fourth, I am rejuvenated from dancing so much last night! :

Ugh, why do I come here and torture myself? Last summer we totally would have gone to see Phil at last once, but I'm just not ready to bring a newborn, I guess. I'll keep living vicariously through you all. We are planning on taking up Grisman's offer to go to the show he invited us to, but he hasn't emailed back yet...I hope he remembers us!

Yeah, gratefulmom-my take on GRAB is that it isn't my thing. I've been keeping up with the shows from this run, though, and you and I apparently got lucky w/our nights to have trey out for entire sets. The rest, he's only done like 2 songs per show (and not at all in Raleigh). They're rotating the order of who goes on first/second/third each night (duo, grab, p&f), so once they're done their sets, I'd doubt they would come back out (althought doesn't it seem odd for phil to not close each night?!). I heard many piled out after phil's set in Hartford too, and didn't stay for grab. You should definitely pick up the 2nd Phil set from Camden-worth a listen.

We'll be seeing them (minus phil) and I'm REALLY looking forward to it!

Did anyone get to the screening of the latest Live phish that they did in select theaters? I thought it was July 1st, and we were going to go, but then realised for the price of our tickets, and the kids we could just buy the dvd. Although I still think it would have been cool to catch it on the big screen!'

Hey caspian's mom.....I just wanted to hop on here and quickly tell you that I don't think we are making it. We have had this ongoing saga with our land purchase and construction loan and it still hasn't closed (if anyone has some good vibes to share please send them our way......this land is sooooo ours for this spec house (not our own house) it is just perfect!!!). So, we just have to be around right now....sorry.....I was looking forward to meeting you and your fam and seeing some live music finally.
The other thing that is holding us up is that I'd have to pay for my 5 yr old: They allow "babes in arms/kids up to 2".....that is how it is phrased on their website anyway. I know you said your little guy looks little and gets nervous in crowds, so, you might capitolize on that!!
Anyway, have fun and let me know how amazing it was!!! ( I am ensuring you have a fabulous show by not going ya know!!! )

moma, thanks for the clarification.

Caspians mama I doubt you'll have an easy time finding vegan brownies. Funny you mention them, DS asked if we could make brownies today, and we're vegan! You could make some! Dh is wanting me to make some green ones soon

Thank you all for your advice, but we actually didn't end up taking her. My husband and I both decided that we deserved a night out "baby-free". Now that we don't LOVE being with her... we just weren't sure about taking her to such a smoky place when she's so little. So, DH got to go on Sat. by himself and I got to go on Sunday by myself! Well, actually I took a girlfriend and it was SO MUCH FUN!

I REALLY NEEDED THAT! I daaaaaaaaaanced alllllllllllllll niiiiiiiiiiiight loooooooooong! It was SO GREAT!

DD stayed with her daddy and did just fine (I was nervous about leaving her for almost 10 hours!)

good times last night. we chilled in the smoke-free "family zone" which was a nice change. dh smokes butts and i do on rare occasions such as this, but it was great to not have ds swimming in clouds of blecch all night long. plus, we met some sweet li'l folks and their parents. casi-man had a blast with the other kids. http://daniel2501.textamerica.com he went strong all night and finally passed out at the beginning of the encore, but woke again for the walk back to the car. we didn't end up camping (because mama's a goof and somehow thought she could just call the campground at 11pm and be fine), but it was good to wake up (at 10am!) in our own bed. now i just have to wait for my download to become available and i'll be set.

Set 1:
Doin That Rag
Deep Elem Blues
*Brown Eyed Women
*Next Time You See Me
Golden Road

*w/ mike

Set 2 with Trey:
All Along The Watchtower>
St. Stephen>
Help On the Way>
Slipknot!>
Nobody Girl>
China Doll>
Nobody Girl>
I Know You Rider>
Slipknot!>
Franklin's Tower

E:
Going Down The Road Feeling Bad
Box Of Rain

the grab stuff was okay, but nothin special. (i'm spoiled.) the jams were especially depressing because you could catch little glimpses of the old days. ~sigh~ : mike was pretty rockin, though. i wish he'd played with phil more but i guess it's tough to put the 2 basses up there at the same time.

Hey mamas. Been away for a while. Lots of shows lately.

Cheese and Ratdog was a great time both nights. Dd came on the first night to her first cheese show. We went down to the front and rode the rail for Shine. Jason and Keth were lovin seeing her up there. She was happy and dancing the whole time! She crashed out around 11:30 and slept soundly in her tent the rest of the night! SHe stayed up with her GP's on the second night. Dh and I got a bit out there that night. We ended up having 10 people stay in our one bedroom apartment the whole weekend too. A few people slept on the deck and one on our kitchen floor. lol. The shows themselves weren't specifically fantastic, but it was great being back in that world and seeing so many friends.

Thursday night, I went to see Railroad Earth solo while Dh stayed home with the sleeping girl. It was such a great reunion - almost ALL my frinds were out and it was a dance marathon. I love RRE but they just don't have a big enough repertoire to keep me totally interested. I end up seeing the same songs every show. Still, just the reunion made it worth it. They had the coolest 'I'm a mess' bibs ever and really cool tye dies onesines (that a friend of mine ended up getting for Dd for her birthday on Wednesday!!)

Last night was Hot Buttered Rum and Little Feat up at the Mish. It was my first time at that venue and it was pretty cool. I expected it to be bigger though. Dd came and had a lot of fun. She was riding on daddy's shoulders raising the roof and clapping in the front row. A good friend of mine came that loves bluegrass but had never seen HBRSB and she loved it! Our girls were dancing and playing all night. Dd crashed out before Little Feat came on, but we only stayed for a few songs anyways because we were soooo tired. We must be getting old - Dh and I can't stay up past midnight anymore. We are so tired by the end of the show - if we can even make it till then.

Anyways, it's going to be nice for a little break. I don't have any shows coming up until Ween and Flaming Lips at the end of the month. We are going to see Phish in the theaters tomorrow though!

Wednesday is Dd's first birthday!! We are going for a fmaily hike then to a free concert in the park with all her playgroup frinds. My girl is getting so big. :

That sounds like so much fun, Cathy! I'm so glad that Madison's enjoying all her shows!!

We just went to High Sierra - Joaquin's first festival. He had a great time and was such a trooper in the heat. I had him in a back pack and just kept a cold scarf over us and made sure we had lots of water. It gets hot there! He had a great time people watching and grooving.

In the beginning of August we are heading up to Eugene to see SCI! I haven't seen them since NYE. The shows are outdoors so we can bring Joaquin. Over 4th of July Widespread Panic played in Tahoe and we went to the 3rd & 5th (dh's birthday). Some friends watched Joaquin cause I did not want to bring him to a smokey casino. He would have had fun. I'm so excited for the SCI shows, though and especially in Oregon!!

Sounds like a great night of music Caspians mom. I saw the "family Zone" here in Hartford, that's great. The one here was kinds close to a bunch of speakers though.
Sounds like everyone is having a great summer with music.
Have a great week!

Meghan! So glad to hear HSMF was a success with a babe in tow. We want to make it one year but I don't want to miss out on all the crazy stuff (i.e. latenights) so I think we will wait a year or two.
I'm so jealous you're going to Eugene!! I want to go soooooooo bad. But supposedly there are going to be some CO shows around Thanksgiving time, so we are holdingout. Plus we're broke. lol.

Hiya!
I wish I had found this thread earlier.
We were at Red Rocks on Sunday July 2nd for Taj Mahal, Ratdog and SCI! It was awesome! I saw so many babies there and wondered if there were any MDC Mamas.
It was a really long trip for us, but it put me in the mood to get back on the circuit. Nothing much happens in my city, and I know I won't drive for days again this summer. Maybe I can find something going on in Flagstaff or Phoenix.

Namaste.

Oh, and I bought earplugs here:
http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/

They worked really well. Ds is 20 months and this was the biggest show he has been too. He wanted to go up and down the stairs at Red Rocks all evening. My leg muscles were shaking from all that excercise.

Hey mama's -- let me introduce myself. I haven't read all 7 pages of the thread -- please excuse me. Just saw the set-list posted on this page and got teary -- it's been long since we've been to a show -- maybe 2 years this summer. My DS is 7 months. Soon we will be able to do stuff with him, I imagine, daytime stuff would be fine. He needs to sleep by 9 PM. I am so out of the scene, really, I mean, I don't even know the newest Phish songs, and Phish broke-up years (?) ago. The last time I saw them was NYE 2000 in FL. Wow . . .

Welcome Hoopin Mama and Plagio!!!

Hoopin Mama - Were you up around row #57 at Red Rocks? I saw sooo many babes and I was so sad that my dd only came the first night. Dh kept teasing me because he would catch me watching the babes more than the band.

Plagio, what good last Phish shows though! I am the biggest moron ever for not going to Big Cypress. It's really my biggest music-related regret. I lived 2 hours away but I was just getting into Phish at the time and not ready to shell out $150 to see them. If I knew then what I know now about Cypress, I woulda been there in a heartbeat!!

The Phish movie in the theater was so fun tonight!! Dd was dancin around and going up and down the stairs most of the time. When she started to get tired, I nursed her in the Ergo to see if she would go to sleep but she was ready to go so we left right after Suzy Greenburg. It was so good to be seeing Phish play.

I think we were in row 36 or 39. My little guy was decked out in a tie-dye jumper (I was sick of tiedye too, but I am now rediscovering my love for it through children's clothes. Especially with a boy, when all commercial clothes have trucks or footballs on them). Before he fell asleep in the Ergo, we spent much of our time on the stairs or up on the plaza. I was so pleased with how child-friendly the whole event was, with puppet shows and clowns. I knew it would be, I wanted to go because I thought it would be the closest thing to a GD atmosphere I could get ds to.

I heard the first night rocked! We were still on the road, we took three days to get there, camping all the way. Did you think Ratdog had a better set the first night? I did almost cry for Attics of My Life.

It would have been cool to meet! I've decided we need to do a Red Rocks show every summer. My friends are going back for the Allmans and also Sound Tribe, but it's too long of a car ride with a toddler.

Oh, and don't let my user name fool you. I am a total novice with my hoop. I made one, but bought a much better one at the show.

I listened to the Phish show on my Sirius satellite radio It was alright. Not much of a Phish fan but the show was a good one. I was wondering how it would go down in a theater. Was there room to dance?

Peace,

Everyone was dancin and boozin and puffin in the theater I was in. When I saw Coventry in the theater, there was actually a huge glowstck war. It was interesting, to saythe least. But the theater was really fun (and loud!).

Hoopin_mama, there was a family ALL wearing tyedyes (I'm talkin 6 people here!) right by me. I can't really sport it either, but I love it on dd. The puppet show was so cute! It really made me regret not bringin my girl. We are going to STS9 too! I can't wait. The nine on 9/9 headlining RR for the first time!!! Ratdog's set the first night was great! Really a lot better than I'd expected.

Well, today was my girl's first birthday!!! It was such a nice and relxing day - breakfast burrito, swimming with cousins, out to lunch, free concert in the park. Except when we were at the park, she faceplanted onto the concrete (she just started walking and is discovering that she can run too) so she has a bit of a fat lip . But she got some cool new toys and clothes (and some hideous clothes, but what're you gonna do?)

Oh, happy first birthday to your little one!! Such a great event.

I bet STS9 will be so cool! We camped at Golden Gate State Park. It wasn't so great, the state park system gets ya for every penny. But we made the best of it.

I really feel like I'm in the boonies when it comes to good shows. I should venture up to Flagstaff more, although I think their amphitheatre may have shut down.

Happy Birthing Day to you Cathy!
I caught some of Phish in Brroklyn on Sirius as well. The theater would have been fun. Is it playing in theaters or was it a one time deal. I am so out of loop on some things now!

Hey mamas! Here is a snippet of Trey's solo on St. Stephen on 6/30. I've watched this clip about 40 times now, lol. The whole set went down pretty much like that. Watch Phil's face too. He was eating that up. Trey IS a jedi. Any questions??

if the link fails, well, I'm good like that.
