For those of us who grew up in the 80's: I'm trying to compile a list of 80's skating rink songs (enough for 2 CD's). My mind is going blank and I'm trying to remember them (I know that was a LOOOONG time ago, lol)...HELP!

I can think of:

Freakathon (I think that's the name)
Let the Music Play
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Because Weekends

Tina - mama to DD1 10yrs, DD2 5.5 yrs and DD3 22 mo and wifey to DH.

When I think of 80s skating rinks, one soundtrack comes to mind-Xanadu.

the title song, Magic by Olivia Newton John and I'm Alive by ELO are all excellent skating songs.

I like this idea you have for a mix...anxious to see what other tunes are mentioned!

I used to love when they played Van Halen's "Jump" so that everyone jumped whenever the word was said. Jeez, was everyone as geeky as I was in the 80's?

I grew up in the US.
I remember at our local skating rink I heard a lot of Duran Duran (I liked them) songs plus:

Def Lepard 'Pour Some Sugar on Me' (but it's a strange song to skate to)
Billy Idol's 'Money Money'
'The Safety Dance' by Men in Hats
'Thriller' by Michael Jackson
'Beat It' by Michael Jackson
'Uptown Girl' by Billy Joel
'Born in the USA' by Bruce Springsteen
'You might think' by the Cars
'Celebrate' by Cool and the Gang (?)
Prince '1999'
Bangles 'Walk Like an Egyptian'
The GoGos 'We Got the Beat'
Pat Benetar 'Love is a Battlefield'
'Just Can't Get Enough' by Depeche Mode

They also played the 'Hokey Pokey' at every session.
Hope this helps a bit.

When I think of my rollerskating days, I instantly think of "Another One Bites the Dust."

I love seeing the lists everyone has come up with so far!

Oh, and before I forget, my favorite slow song, "No One is to Blame" by Howard Jones. I usd to love that song, esp. when skating with a cute boy.

I had totally forgotten how fun that was! I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I would now-too self-conscious back then.

I don't know the song title or the artist but it goes "last night a DJ saved my life"....
Our rink used to have little contest and always did the Mexican Hat dance, and the Hokey Pokey.
This thread is a blast from the past!

This is a great thread. Did somebody already say "Endless Love"? It makes me think of Happy Gilmore--"What, friends sing Endless Love together in the dark..."

I guess my skating rink days were really more in the 70s. The very first song that popped into my head was by the Bay City Rollers. S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!
