Another from Sting
Quote:
. . . .She says "Are you OK? I was worried about you.
Can you forgive me? I hope that you'll be happy"
I said

I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing through my tears

Saw a friend of mine, he said "I was worried about you,
I heard she had another man, I wondered how you felt about it"

I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm so happy I'm laughing through my tears

I saw my lawyer, Mr Good News, he got me
Joint custody and legal separation

I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears

I took a walk alone last night
I looked up at the stars to try and find an answer in my life
I chose a star for me, I chose a star for him,
I chose two stars for my kids and one star for my wife

Something made me smile, something seemed to ease the pain
Something about the universe and how it's all connected ...

. . . .

I saw that friend of mine, he said "You look different somehow,"
I said, "Everybody's got to leave their darkness sometime."

I'm so happy that I can't stop crying
I'm laughing through my tears
I'm laughing through my tears

The other day, I was going to mention "Built To Last" by Garcia & Hunter, but I couldn't think of which part to single out for a quote! The verses & choruses kind of go together, build upon the idea being expressed, and it feels like it needs to be received as a whole. Each lyric change in the chorus is nourishing and reassuring, though maybe not overtly (if selected and quoted here on its own.) I think it's also an instance of the tune/singing, itself, being an important part of conveying that overall empowering thing. There's a lot of "if" stuff,

There are times when you offend me
And I do the same to you
If we can't or won't forget it
I guess we could be through

is a good example, and it could sound pessimistic or fatalistic or helpless if isolated. But the choices are presented frankly but not bleakly, and somehow it's obvious that the optimism is there, as is the nurturing.

Built To Last by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter

Bob Marley, Three Little Birds
UB40, Higher Ground
"Every hour of every day i'm learning more
The more I learn, the less I know about before
The less I know, the more I want to look around
Digging deep for clues on higher ground

Moon and stars sit way up high
Earth and trees beneath them lie
The wind blows fragrant lullaby
To cool the night for you and I"

Bare Naked Ladies, If I had a million dollars :

Van Morrison, Higher Ground

"Whenever God shines his light on me
Opens up my eyes so I can see
When I look up in the darkest night
I know everything's going to be alright
In deep confusion, in great despair
When I reach out for him he is there
When I am lonely as I can be
I know that God shines his light on me"

Return To Innocence Enigma lyrics
Artist: Enigma
Album: The Cross Of Changes
Title: Return To Innocence

That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence.
Love - DevotionTesti Canzoni
Feeling - Emotion
.
Love - Devotion
Feeling - Emotion
.
Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence
.
If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny
.
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence
.
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
.
Don't care what people say
Follow just your own way
Follow just your own way
Don't give up, don't give up
To return, to return to innocence.
If you want then laugh
If you must then cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny.

You all will want to listen to this song. It will give you chill bumps. It is called "I Am Exactly Where I Need To Be". You'll want to get up and sway with the music and dance around the room with her voice enchanting you. It is uplifting, inspirational and mesmerizing. We are going to hear her locally next month!!

Not Backing Down
Artist or band: Hammet Melanie
-----------------------------------------------
sometimes i get so tired - sometimes it gets too hard
i don't know what keeps me going and i whistle in the dark
sometimes it feels like there's work to be done
and i can barely maintain
and there's not enough time and i'm so far behind
and nothing will ever change
CHORUS
i'm not backing away, not backing out, not backing down
a fire will burn, it's coming my way
i've got an ear to the ground
but i'm not backing down
there are days that pass like hours
there are hours that pass like days
there are lifetimes to be left behind and i can't seem to walk away
there are days when i'm just killing time and days when it kills me
and i can't see the end of the endless days
and i don't have the energy
CHORUS
but inside my heart is a dream - it's a dream that won't let me fall
tho sometimes a dream is just a dream
and what's real is the clock on the wall
well maybe i'm a fool with a joker up my sleeve
but i have my dream - i believe what i know
and i know what i believe
CHORUS

So many fantastic songs mentioned on this thread.

I'm also not a Christian, but those gospel songs that were mentioned always touch something in me, as well. (I especially love that version of His Eye is On the Sparrow!) Here's another song from a Christian band, Jars of Clay, that always feels very empowering to me.

FLOOD

Quote:
Rain, rain on my face
It hasn't stopped raining for days
My world is a flood
Slowly I become one with the mud

Chorus
But if I can't swim after forty days
And my mind is crushed by the crashing waves
Lift me up so high that I cannot fall
Lift me up
Lift me up - when I'm falling
Lift me up - I'm weak and I'm dying
Lift me up - I need you to hold me
Lift me up - keep me from drowning again

Calm the storms that drench my eyes
Dry the streams still flowing
Cast down all the waves of sin
And guilt that overthrow me
It reminds me to let go of things that I don't need to dwell on. I don't believe in the Christian concept of sin, but I do believe that we drown ourselves in our own guilt and fear and anger. So sometimes it helps to hear that I need to become one with the "mud" (the Source, the Universe) and let go in order to be lifted up.

Put Your Records On, Corinne Bailey Rae
Quote:
Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.

Blue as the sky, sombre and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the road side,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Gotta love that afro hairdo.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer.
Do what you want to.
World, Five for Fighting
Quote:
Got a package full of Wishes
A Time machine, a Magic Wand
A Globe made out of Gold

No Instructions or Commandments
Laws of Gravity or
Indecisions to uphold

Printed on the box I see
A.C.M.E.'s Build-a-World-to-be
Take a chance - Grab a piece
Help me to believe it

What kind of world do you want?
Think Anything
Let's start at the start
Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
History starts now...

Should there be people or peoples
Money, Funny pedestals for Fools who never pay
Raise your Army - Choose your Steeple
Don't be shy, the satellites can look the other way

Lose the Earthquakes - Keep the Faults
Fill the oceans without the salt
Let every Man own his own Hand

What kind of world do you want
Think Anything
Let's start at the start
Build a masterpiece
Be careful what you wish for
History starts now...

Sunlight's on the Bridge
Sunlight's on the Way
Tomorrow's Calling

There's more to this than Love

What Kind of world do you want
Rocking Horse, Sara Evans
Quote:
The rocking horse came
From an old oak tree
Just missed the house
When it was hit by lightning
My daddy painted that horse
A midnight blue
Shooting stars and silver horseshoes
And it was something magic out of something frightening

That's how I live my life
I take it as it comes
And I find the hidden love
When it's pouring down on me
In my mind I see
The rocking horse inside the tree

Kick A Little by Little Texas
Quote:
"You've got to kick at little and cause a stir
Sometimes you got to make some noise to be heard
If anybody ever tries to hold you back
Yeah you got to kick a little and be tough
You got to let 'em know you've had enough
Remember that unless you want to finish last
You've got to kick a little"
Rainbow Connection, sung by Kermit the Frog in The Muppet Movie
Quote:
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it,
And look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

All of us under its spell,
We know that it's probably magic...

Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm s'posed to be
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me."
And I had another one whose name escapes me now! I'll post it when I think of it!

I have to admit that some of my favorite music for feeling great is meant for children!

Every listened to Red Grammer? He's got a song called "We're Rich" that rocks my socks! In part, it goes:

"Folk have been on this planet for generations
In every land and every nation
Giving their best from dawn to dusk
leaving all they've learned for us
Add it all together, what've you got (1, 2, 3)
We've got a whole lot:
We're Rich!"

That's on his Hello World CD and it's packed with great songs.
There's another that goes:

"I'm digging for diamonds, lookin' for gold
Tunneling 'round down deep in my soul
'cause everything that I can be
Is waiting down there, just waiting for me!

There's ruby reds and lapis blues
topaz, touquiose, emeralds, too
I never know what i might find
Whatever it is, I know that it's mine!"

That song is based on a quote that says: "Man[kind] is a mine rich in gems of inestimable value..."

For me, there's also Landysmith Black Mambazo. Song like "Rain Rain, Beautiful Rain" "O King of Kings" "Journey of Dreams"... they always make me smile.I mena, how can you resist a line that says, over and over,

"I love you, baby, I love you" or "I am HAPPY!"

I love this thread! Thanks for bumping it, WuWei

Don't know if anyone posted this song...and it might seem a little sad...but whenever I hear it....it DOES make me cry...but then I BREATHE....really....and I realize.....it makes so much sense.

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
can you help me unravel my latest mistake,
I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to critisize,
hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track,we're like cars on a cable
and life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button girl,
So cradle your head in you hands
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe

May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist,
Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year.
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breahte

There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
But you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
These mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, its no longer
inside of me, threatening the life they belong to
And i feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
and breathe, just breathe
woah breathe, just breathe,
oh breathe, just breathe.

Bliss~ Alice Peacock

Your touch is electric
I felt it the first time you held me
The way we connected
So easily

I've tried to define it
Searched for the perfect phrase
I've tried to describe it
In a million different ways

(chorus)
It's joy, it's ecstacy, it's truth, it's destiny
And even love is not enough to tell you how you make me feel
There's only one word for this

I've got to admit it
You took my heart by surprise
Don't know how you did it
But baby, I've never felt so alive

(chorus)
It's joy, it's ecstacy, it's truth, it's destiny
And even love is not enough to tell you how you make me feel
There's only one word for this
It's bliss

Hey, you know, baby, know what the future holds
As long as you're here with me

(chorus)
It's joy, it's ecstacy, it's truth, it's destiny
And even love is not enough to tell you how you make me feel

It's faith, it's honesty, it's life, it's everything
To say "I love you"'s not enough to tell you how you make me feel

It's in your smile, in your kiss
It's the reason that I exist
There's only one word for this
It's bliss

It's bliss

It's bliss

Ok, I'll have to go through this when I get home. I don't think I noticed it before! Of course, I was only able to get my iPod back a day or two ago, so the timing of me finding this thread is good!

Lean on Me is a song that always makes me feel good.

Another feel good happy bouncy song I recently discovered (well, DH discovered and insisted that I listen to it because he was sure I'd love it...and I do! I can't stop listening to it!) I like the lyrics because they really reflect the path that DH and I have been on (and are currently on, I guess!)

Mushaboom by Feist

Helping the kids out of their coats
Oh wait the babies haven't been born oh
Unpacking the bags and setting up
And planting lilacs and buttercups oh

But in the meantime we've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day
My dreams will match up with my pay

Old dirt road,
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
o-o-o-o-old

I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house
And we'll collect the moments one by one
I guess that's how the future's done oh

How many acres, how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbours and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

Old dirt road,
mushaboom, mushaboom)
knee deep snow
mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow,
mushaboom, mushaboom)
o-o-o-o-old
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Old dirt road rambling rose
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow
(mushaboom, mushaboom)
Well I'm Sold...

HEY! This Ladysmith has a bunch of songs from Paul Simon that I LOVE! and I forgot about them. Did he remake their work?

"Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" by Baz Luhrmann
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gary.ha.../luhrmann.html

I love the whole *song*, but I find these parts especially empowering:

Quote:
Don’t worry about the future, or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Quote:
Don’t waste your time on jealousy, sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind, the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.
Quote:
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, don’t be afraid of it,
or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.
Quote:
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
And my most favorite part of all:

Quote:
Brother and sister together we'll make it through
Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you've been hurtin, but I've been waitin' to be there for you
And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can
Everybody's free oh yeah
Everybody's free oh yeah

WHOA! I refer to this song AAAAALLLLL the time! And really, no one except my ex husband EVER knows of it. how is that? i make reference to it sooooo often...always, "that reminds me of this song...well, more a poem-sort-of thing by this guy named baz luhrman....." wow. it is a smaller world than i was starting to think it was.... and the really funny part is hwo much weight i give that advice in my own life. i don't mess with my hair as much as i used to and i try really hard to never underestimate the power and beauty of my youth (because any age is youth when compared to how old i will be in a few years, or next year...)amazing...
