I want to read a chapter book to dd that will get us in the mood for the season - but I can't think of anything! So far we've read Charlotte's Web, Little House in the Big Woods, and Pippi Longstocking, just to give you an idea of the 'level' she can handle. We are reading Mary Poppins now but I might put it on hold if we find a holiday book.

It doesn't have to be a Xmas book specifically, maybe just a book that takes place in the winter or has a good Xmas scene at one point? Thanks!

My DD and I really enjoyed Big Susan by Elizabeth Orton Jones. It's about the adventures of a family of dolls who come to life every Christmas Eve. We've read it several times. It's one of DD's most requested books. I'm going to go home and pull it off the shelves now that the season is here. Thank you for the reminder!

Another wonderful book that just came to mind is The Story of Holly and Ivy by Rumer Godden. This one is about a girl who is an orphan who gets a doll and a loving home for Christmas. Not a chapter book...but long enough that you'll probably need to read it over at least a few nights. Great book for the holidays!

Thank you! I had not heard of either book so I appreciate the recommendations! Going to see if our library has them now...

How about "A Christmas Carol" or "The Nutcracker"?
