The Party's Crashing Us by Of Montreal. Our reception was us going to see Of Montreal, but we had to leave because I was pregnant and getting gut punched by stupid fratties.

Lyrics (because its so badazz)

You’re such a mystery I just wanna stand and stare,
Nibble on your ear and smell the ocean in your hair,
I know you damage me you leave me tangled in a knot,
But when you reappear I see Neptunian blues that eyes forgot,
Neptunian blues that eyes forgot.

Still I only feel alive when the vu’s flashing alarms going off in my head,
I want to grab you and just kiss you maybe I should sit down,
No sense in cashing us now,
Yeah I only feel alright when the vu’s flashing bombs going off in my head,
I want to grab you want to scream at you no icing me down,
The party’s crashing us now,
The party’s crashing us now.

Oh well we made love like a pair of black wizards,
You freed me from the past you f***ed the suburbs out of me,
Oh all those ugly days that made us so sick,
They are just fossils now we’ve learned the elevating trick,
We’ve learned the elevating trick.

The bolding happens to be the coolest lyric of any song ever.

We did a father/daughter dance but we had all of the father/daughters in attendence get on the floor and dance. I think we had something like 12 couples! The father/daughter song was "I loved her first" by Heartland. It makes me cry when I hear it.

Let me call you sweetheart by Bing Crosby. My dh even let me drag him to dance lessons so we could do some other step besides the "middle school sway".

oops, forgot to add, our dance was to "Crazy Love" by Van Morrison. Our song, though, is "Forever" by Ben Harper.

I'm totally embarassed to admit my wedding song, but it does say something about how much I have changed since becoming a parent.

I never hated Disney before, although I was never a huge fan. When dh and I were dating for about 6 months we went to NY for a wedding of a friend of his. While we were there he got us tickets to see The Lion King at Radio City Music Hall, with a whole Rockettes show, and Disney extravaganza. We had a great time. Sometime after that he bought me a stuffed Nala.

When he proposed, he snuck into my apartment before I got home from work, and had a stuffed Simba with my Nala, on my bed, surrounded by roses and hershey kisses. It was really sweet.

So, our wedding dance was Can You Feel The Love Tonight, and I still get a little teary when I hear the song. However, I now despise Disney and the Princesses, and pretty much everything about the Disney movies, including the Lion King and the death of a parent in every movie theme, etc. But that never would have crossed my mind then, I was super mainstream before finding Mothering magazine after I gave birth.

ETA: I wanted Bobby McFerrin's Don't Worry Be Happy to be our first dance, and DH refused because neither of us can dance, and certainly couldn't dance to that song. But I loved that song.

I wanted to have our first dance be to Polyester Bride by Liz Phair, but DH nixed that idea. We danced to Frank Sinatra singing "The Way You Look Tonight."

Our song is actually "Take Me To the River" by talking heads. We sang it on our first date doing karaoke in a dive bar. But it's kinda hard to dance to.

We had an awesome DJ and he played all the random, esoteric music we asked for. I spent the entire night dancing and there were so many memorable songs and moment that there is a bunch I tear up to if I hear them now.

The band played way too slow, but we enjoyed it anyway.

No dance song, but the song while we lit the candles was "Secret Marriage" by Sting. No words, just the music. No one knew the words, made it more special to us.

No earthly church has ever blessed our union
No state has ever granted us permission
No family bond has ever made us two
No company has ever earned commission

No debt was paid no dowry to be gained
No treaty over border land or power
No semblance of the world outside remained
To stain the beauty of this nuptial hour

The secret marriage vow is never spoken
The secret marriage never can be broken

No flowers on the alter
No white veil in your hair
No maiden dress to alter
No Bible oath to swear

The secret marriage vow is never spoken
The secret marriage never can be broken

We didn't have a dance -- it was a small, family-only ceremony in our home with a casual party afterward. But I walked down our open staircase to Sarah Harmer's "Open Window":

Love, I see you there
Adrift on the air
Floating by the open window
Ah, the sentiment of love
Reflections that speak of
What can enter when our hearts are open
Here, witnesses appear
And recognize
How sacred love can be when stated
Shared, shown for all to know
The beauty that can grow
When love is cultivated

Our love is a sacred thing
Like the mysteries of the night
In the darkness unwavering
And still so strong come the light
Our love is an infinite thing
Like the sun's last ray on the sea
As it sets low in the west
And the moon rises

Partner for life..by um Oh shoot I can't remember.
It's a nice song but not something most people would choose , I think. The bummer is that it is not something that is ever played anywhere so we never hear, "our song"

Wedding hasn't happened yet, but on 9/20/08 it will be "First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes.

And we *just* decided that the processional (which was giving me trouble) will be "Loquasto International Film Festival" from the soundtrack to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.:

I was still an actively performing circus performer when we got married, so it seemed to fit!

We were going to do "Storybook Love" from Princess Bride, but my sister was planning her wedding around the same time and REALLY wanted it. I gave it up.

SO many of you have great songs!

My poor DH would have died from embarrassment if he had to dance in public (and I wanted him to actually enjoy the wedding!), so we didn't do the trad first dance. But our song was The Luckiest by Ben Folds. The lyrics are in the "About this video" - they bring tears to my eyes every time.

"And in a white sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize"

We've danced to it in our living rooms countless times.

Actually we're going to have that song played at our party when dh gets home. we're getting the legal thing done in Georgia before he ships to Iraq, but that's just for the military.

When we originally exchanged our vows almost 14 years ago, a friend threw us a small party, where dh sang his own customized version of Rope The Moon by John Michael Montgomery to me.

oh, and Bless The Broken Road is his ringtone on my phone.
