Is it the light of Eärendil? Meaning the silmaril he carried as a star in the sky which held the captured light of the two trees of Valinor. If not, I'm totally lost now.....but enjoying the challenge.

Oooh, I was about to guess light! But I was going to say just light in general... I bet the light of Earendil is better.

19. Is it in the Hobbit? No.
20. Is it the light of Earendil? Nope.

I feel like I totally didn't do it right because everyone is so lost!

Do you want to keep trying or should I just give the answer?

Hey, the point is that we have to guess in 20 questions or you win, so no worries!

BUT if you want to go easy on us, how about give us one more hint and five more questions to figure it out?

One of the fellowship has it (so to speak) and shares it.
It's historic.
It's modeled after a part of Tolkien's life.

Is it Legolas who "has" it?

I ask that since you said it was elven in origin...

Some more hints as we only have 3 more questions...

* One of the fellowship has it and shares it before there is a Fellowship of the Ring.
* It is something spoken though like most things it can be written though I am not 100% positive it is in Middle Earth though I am pretty sure it is somewhere- and in Elvish no less.
* It's historic but not just to the Elves as it is shared by Men.

Oy vey... at least I was on the right track!

I can't think of the name of it... is it the one about the ancient lovers, the one that's all parallels with Aragorn and Arwen, the love of an elf and a human, etc? Golly I can't remember their names... Aragorn shares it with the hobbits IIRC...

4. "One ring to rule them all..."? No.

* It is something very near and dear to Tolkein in his personal life.
* It is Elvish but has to do in part to the race of Men.
* It has to do with one of my kid's middle names

The man's name starts with a b, can't think of it offhand, the elf's name is Luthien, which I'm pretty sure is the middle name mags is referring to , but I don't know the song!

YEEEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!! : : :

The Tale of Tinuviel, The Lay of Luthien/Leithian, The Tale of Luthien and Beren, however you want to say it!

From wikipedia...
Quote:
The Tale of Beren and Lúthien was regarded as the central part of his legendarium by Tolkien. The story and the characters reflect the love of Tolkien and his wife Edith. Particularly, the event when Edith danced for him in a glade with flowering hemlocks seems to have inspired his vision of the meeting of Beren and Lúthien. Also some sources indicate that Edith's family disapproved of Tolkien originally, due to his being a Catholic.[3] On Tolkien's grave, J. R. R. Tolkien is referred to as Beren and Edith is referred to as Lúthien
ETA- that was question #25/#5 in the second round. Way to go!!!!

QA~ Luthien was indeed the middle name I was referring to. I was hoping someone would check my blog or remember or something.

beren and luthien, that's it... some quick googling to the rescue... and apparently Tolkien's gravie identifies him as beren, and his wife as luthien!

So that's it, isn't it? The ballad of beren and luthien tinuviel???

EDIT -- HAHA crossposted... So do I win? Lemme think of a new one now...

Wow, Mags, that was a GOOD one!

OK, #4: is this person of the same race as any of the Fellowship?
