Kim they don't test the fetal tissue but run blood tests on you the theory is people more prone to clotting the fetus can develop tiny clots they cannot handle.

Today I took out my bin of maternity clothes and tried things on. I'm pregnant at a totally different time of year this go round and so I have no work pants! Ugh... going to have to shop for some. I think I recall hating maternity shopping... :p

Thanks for the new thread Uriver!

I can't believe I made it to the rainbow part of the list. Woot woot!!!

Greysmama is next! Sarah and Jenny - coming up soon! So many rainbows - so awesome. I remember feeling like I'd never have a baby. What a difference a year makes. A support system like this one really helps. You're an inspiring group of women.

Thanks Uriver.  How are you doing?

Tenk-thanks for pump info.  I looked around some yesterday at what insurances provide and found info for a medical company called Edgepark that I'll link below for anyone looking for a pump.  That's good to know about the hospital one not being enough for pumping as much as needed for early delivery.

Camden is so cute-he looks great!  Are you talking about those head pillow things?  I put one on my registry that comes with two sizes-a nb and one for older infant.  Didn't look at the outgrown age/weight though.  The one that came with the car seat isn't small enough.

Planegreen-ah, maternity.  I didn't like shopping for it, still don't.  It's hard to find things that fit right.  See if you can get away a belly band, I wish I'd have tried it early on.  Some of my pants actually still fit me and I could probably wear them now with the band.  I saw long camis made to do the same thing too.

Afm-doing ok.  Tired.  Not hungry.  No spotting this past month-yay, and I even went back to my regular activity.  Baby's moving around lots.

Pump link-https://www.edgepark.com/faq/breastpumps.cfm

I don't know how helpful, but if needed a pump might want to call and see how it works and what pumps are available.  Looks like they do all the insurance/obg checking for you, and a lot of times you can get about a month before delivery.  I bet for anyone facing an earlier delivery, if the ob signed off, they'd send it earlier.   I'm going to check out the pumps and see which ones work well for early delivery/nursing problems and what do to if we need one to get it asap.

Planegreen- I hear ya, I have no maternity clothes at all. I really need them to materialize out of the air as i really can't spend money on them right now, i have none, and I hate maternity shopping lol

Tenk- he's adorable

asm- man, I don't even know. Since I've gotten pregnant my asthma has gotten really bad.Because i am sick I am out on leave (which has financial repercussions that worry me like crazy) so now not only can I not afford to start preparing for this baby coming due to my sickness. I am worried sick that my asthma is going to hurt or kill the baby. it is making me so...ugh...just frantic i guess... and now i have a head cold on top of it. Fevers make me a mess. a right mess.

so yeah. that's just been my thing lately i guess. worry. worry. worry.

on a lighter sort of silly note. A while ago, I gave away all my worsted weight yarn, i had probably over 2000$ worth that i had collected over the years. I barely used any of it and one of my very good friend had been in a huge financial grind forever. she could never ever afford yarn so i gave her mine. after all I barely used it right. Pay it forward!

of course now i need that yarn so bad. ugh. i can save to buy yarn, and will...but that is gonna leave me powerhouse knitting in the end. i am sick and off work, now is the ideal time to knit but alas i don't have the yarn

after all the bad stuff that happened to us in August (stolen wallet, my health, other stuff) this just occurred to me and i can't stop laughing about it. maybe it's slightly hystericallaughter...or the fever. but it's funny to me. oh well. I know we will get this stuff sorted out and for right now i am trying to stay relaxed and at peace

would it be to horrible if i took my expensive sock yarn double stranded it and knitted soakers out of that? lmao they would be the shmanciest most expensive soakers ever but at least i have the yarn lol ooh or i could what, quadruple strand my lace weight yarn? oh yeah, maybe it's the fever. that's just funny to me

Actually, for early babies you NEED the hospital one because the Medela and Ameda you can buy @ Babies R Us isn't made to accommodate all that pumping. Also, your insurance company will provide you with a FREE pump for home if you call your insurance company directly. I called mine and they made the arrangements for me and my pump arrived in the mail 10 days later.

We have the Chicco Key Fit 30 and at 11 pounds they outgrow the infant seat support (goes under the butt) and it says you can keep using the head support if you need it but the way theirs is made his head was pushed forward and it looked super uncomfortable. Also, we had the added head 2 piece thing (for sale on my eBay now) but the owners manual says not to add anything to the seat that goes under the baby because the seats aren't crash tested with these random additional items therefore they can't guarantee safety etc. it drives me nuts really!!

Tenk-That's odd with the car seat things.   I wonder why some of them come with the extra head things?  They attach to the car seat or belt buckles and you remove them later.

I don't see how they are any different than putting on a thick winter coat, really, except the coat is much thicker, but that's just me.

Pump- the hospitals around here use the medela symphony and even had a premie pump which to me was weak... My dbl electric at home was way stronger... I'd check into it early ladies with your insurance. I really had to make a ton of phone calls and was told I couldn't get pump until baby was here-which is up to the provider as I got mine mailed to me.
Tenk- super cute dude.

Selissa thinking about money when having a baby sucks but if we all waited until we had enough money we would never have babies... Laughter is a good thing

Tenk-took the support off our registry, but it still doesn't make sense to me.  The fabric behind the head is as thin as a hat and not push the head forward, yet the support that came with my car seat is a thick pillow that would push the head forward.  It don't understand.  Nor how putting rolled blankets on the side of the head would help in an accident, they would move, so would do no good.  Probably a car seat forum question, so will ask there.

J&J-so it depends on the pump then.

Uriver-tell her again you don't want one and if she insists ask her to throw it after baby is born.  If you know the people invited and they are friends, tell them as well.  I can't see how they would all be as non understanding as that one person.

You're actually not supposed to put any type of coat on baby while buckled in any car seat. No seat is crash tested with coats or jackets of any kind. Even toddlers, no jacket while buckled in at all. I've always wondered why so many companies make inserts of any kind since it could potentially void the warranty on your seat if in an accident even. All those fancy covers that are made to go inside the seat to make it prettier, all considered unsafe. Unless you get a replacement cover directly from the manufacturer it shouldn't be used greensad.gif

Sorry greensad.gif to be the barer of bad news!!

Uriver - that's crap. I wish she was being a better friend to you right now. I do like the suggestion of a baby shower after baby is born. Would she be open to that idea?

AFM - Just hanging out. I'm entering 2nd tri which is great but not great because as the symptoms go away I am trying my best to mentally hang on. I told my best friend today. She was very excited for me and said she has suspected for weeks. :)

Tenk-It's too hot to use coats where I live, but we do wear jackets/thicker sweaters.  When we went up north, I had the kids take off the winter coats before buckling.  But so many people don't.  Of course I see a lot of 3yr olds in boosters too, and according to some companies that's fine.  I'd rather keep them in 5pt for as long as possible.  Some of the car seats I looked at came with seat, side and head inserts, I just don't understand it.  I never saw a car seat come with all that extra cushion before.   If they crash test with those, for that car seat, how is that different than say a thin tee shirt and shorts vs heavier/thicker sweater/pants?  You have to tighten/loosen the straps pending the thickness of fabric your child has on.  At least I've had to, and a sweater isn't that thick, but it is compared to a tee shirt.

Uriver-can you switch my week to 30 please.  For the sake of thinking I might deliver early, my mw's are changing my dd to lmp/later u/s date, not ovulation.  It ends up the same week I'm thinking this guy will come anyhow (my real 39wks), but at least they are keeping the range in case I go past it to 42 wks.

Planegreen-yay for 2nd tri and your friend being happy :)  It's tough when the symptoms go away.  I was a wreck till I started feeling movement.  And there are days I still worry over movement.

Afm-baby checked out good today (me too).  I was able to hear the hb with the fetascope :)  He was still head down, but rolls from side to side.  Hope he doesn't decide to roll butt down, lol.  I go every 2 weeks now-yikes!

Uriver-:(  Being another loss momma, I hope she understands when you talk to her.  It may be she's overlaying some of her feelings into your shower.  Wanting to take some of your stress/worry away?

Ugh-I was hit by a wall of anxiety today.  Like I can't wait to have this baby and be past worrying about being pregnant.  J&J-wasn't that you?  Then I'm thinking about things going wrong after, but also feel like I'll be better too.  I was doing okay till now.  I think hitting the 10- weeks left hit me in reality, that a newborn will be here.  And at the appt today the one midwife I hadn't met (thought I met all of them) took out this 12wk model, we were talking about heart rate, and I almost broke down.  I wanted to scream at her to put it away.  She also started to go on about spotting being normal-I cut her off quick.  I don't think she read my past chart at all :(

uriver, I hope your friend has been feeling like she stuck her foot in her mouth and just doesn't know what else to do. I think the idea of a celebration/ gifting time after the baby is born sounds nice. I was a peace corps volunteer and that was the tradition there. bc they were only ab 60 years from being a totally nomadic society, they wouldn't even acknowledge a pregnancy until birth. now I understand so much better.

hippy mum- it sounds like she either didn't read it or has no bedside manner. I saw several docs like that while we tried to get to the bottom of my fertility issues. I hope that you don't have to deal with this midwife again, but if you do, let her know that you didn't appreciate how she treated you this time. i hope she would learn from that.

afm: I took my son to his first day at school. today. he hugged his teacher and had a great day, but it was kinda weird setting all the moms, it's a co-op school, we all know either pretty well, and a couple of them knew from my hubby, fb, or running into me this summer, but quite a few were in the omg state. I wish I could just hide. I went to go buy some diapers at a sale a local baby store yesterday and I couldn't bring myself to do. it. it will come right?

Yes hippy mum that was me as I felt very restricted during pregnancy and was sure that baby would be fine, well... I was also forgetting that a baby was at the end of it all as my last son had died at 37w.

I had a friend tell me today to mention that I'm not comfortable with that mw, if I don't start feeling better around her the next few times I see her.  She's right, if I don't feel comfortable and that mw is there at delivery, I'm not going to relax.  So I'll see.  I just couldn't click with her like the other two.  I can mention it to who's in charge that I'm just not relaxed around her at that point and if she happens to be on call at labor, can I call someone else?  I don't want to cause friction either.

Jildez-eventually.  You can wait too, till baby is here :)

Hey ladies! Just checking in... it has been months and months so apologies for not being more present. Approaching the last few weeks of pregnancy here and it's been anything but quiet. My husband and I went on a 'babymoon' in May and then came home to find out we had to move unexpectedly. This summer has been all about moving, unpacking, and trying to get resettled before our girl arrives. Plus we had a couple of trips to see family mixed in there, and visits from family out here (which don't seem to be letting up anytime soon...!)

Just about 37 weeks now and I'm determined to make the last three weeks of pregnancy as restful and relaxing as I can. I have gotten off lucky with not having too severe of discomfort but these days my feet hurt 24 hrs a day. Being able to be on my feet for long periods of time is one thing I am really looking forward to, post-baby. That and fall weather... it is HOT in LA!! Did I mention our new house has no AC? By the beach they say you don't need it. I disagree. We had to get a portable unit for our bedroom just so we could sleep at night.

Hope you are all doing well, I will try and catch up now that I have nothing to do but sit & wait for baby. :W
