Expecting Our Rainbow Babies ~ July/August chat

This is the July-August 2014 pregnancy thread for ALL graduates of the "Hoping, Healing & Conceiving Again" threads, or anyone who has suffered a loss and has found themselves expecting again. Here we can discuss our concerns and problems in the safety and company of other mamas like us. Compare BETA results, our prenatal screens, show off our scans, and in what seems like a lifetime away - our newborn baby pictures.

****If you are a new poster or need changes to your stats, just let me know your EDD IN BOLD, and I'll update periodically.**** Due date calculator with luteal phase length.

We have a FB group for sharing whatever you'd like in a private setting. If you'd like to join, you can find us here.

Subbing. Also, I'm on the list twice, probably something with the transition. Thanks for the new thread.

Subbing, and I can't believe I'm almost halfway up the list already. Guess it makes sense since I'm almost halfway done with the pregnancy. Sono next week!

monkeyscience, I deleted one of them. Is your EDD October 1st?

Harmony96, you are moving up, but if I deleted all the people who don't post here anymore, you would pretty much be at the top! (After monkeyscience, of course.)

liladancing, subbing means subscribing to the thread so that you get notifications when someone else posts. It usually happens when you post, but you can also subscribe or unsubscribe using the thread tools at the top of the thread.

Any updates from anyone?

I think I am subscribed. I have a hard time with that. For some reason. Things I though I subscribed to aren't showing up.

My sono's in a week. We are finding out, but we found out already via a blood test that we're having our fourth boy in a row.

To that end, I'd like some name opinions. DD is Lydia, and living, we also have a Benjamin and Josiah after her. I kinda like the name Gideon but am wondering if it would be too similar sounding to Lydia, even with the other brothers in between her and the new baby?

Subbing- can't believe that it's almost time for me. I find myself getting scared again, now that I'm near the end. The first trimester I was a nervous wreck, I relaxed during the second, and now it seems like everywhere I look, there is some story about stillbirth. Just want to get this kid out safe and sound.

Sorry about that, liladancing.

I'm glad you could join us, taichimom. I am finding it difficult to relax at any time with this pregnancy.

I just moved up OSTC to the top of the list, even though she hasn't been posting here lately. She was in my last due date club after we moved here together from Hope, Healing and Conceiving. Wow. I should be at the end of my pregnancy now. But I'll wait until December if it means I'll have a healthy baby. Please may I have a healthy baby.

I feel the same way sometimes. This pretnancy is at 11 weeks and I just wish the baby was here already. Best of luck in your safe delivery.
nsmomtobe thanks don't worry about it. I hope you have a healthy baby too. I hope we all do. We deserve it.

Has anyone ever used a dopplar? We want to get one. I read somewhere it doesn't make sense to use it more than once in a day. If any of you have used one how has that been? How would I use it and how often? Is there any time of day to better use it? Thanks.

We also got to see our little one in 3D/4D,I recommend it to everyone,it's magical. The place we went to was in opelousas,La it's called 4D baby waves, the woman there is awesome at getting good pics and very friendly. So my baby weighed 3 oz measured 4 inches and the heartbeat was 150,and was VERY active.

I have one that I use everyday.I find it works best about an hour after I eat. I love my dopplar it gives me peace of mind. they are very easy to use and most come with an instruction manual. Hope this helps .

Hi ladies! I haven't been here in a long while! Recently found out we're expecting our second rainbow baby after four losses. I'm excited for this pregnancy and looking forward to completing our family. This will be my 6th baby. I've got a due date of March 5th, but with my track record I'm not expecting baby before mid March.

I didn't know either until doing some research on the internet. Some places can tell as early as 13 weeks. I went in at exactly 14 weeks 1 day.

Can I join? I am expecting #3 after a loss last year. I had a surprise pregnancy march 2013 that ended at 8 weeks. We have an 11 year old and an 8 year old and had pretty much decided against having another because our two have a lot of needs -medical and otherwise- but the m/c made us realize we do want another. I had two losses in between the 2 kids so this is pregnancy #6 . My older kid has a severe heart defect and autism and I will be seen by high risk OBs this time. He is also having a valve replacement surgery in a couple weeks and I'm a mess. I need to be distracted! Tell me your stories! What prenatal testing did you all get? I'm almost 40 so high risk for all kinds of stuff the materni-T wasn't available when I had my kids but I think I want that. Sounds way better than CVS.
I'm due in late March by the way. Barely 4 weeks!

I did the MaterniT21 test and it was so easy. Sort of. lol. It's a long story about why it wasn't "easy" for me, but it's just a blood draw for mom, so no additional risk of miscarriage or anything. I'm glad I took it this time.

Welcome, AmBam and Sleepymama!

The only genetic testing I've had is a maternal serum screening at 11 weeks and 16 weeks. This will be combined with the results of my ultrasound at 20 weeks to determine if there are genetic markers that anything is wrong.

I think that's basically the materniT 21 or a version of it? All I remember from my kids was the triple screen which I declined with my 2nd. It seems like the new maternal serum is way more accurate. I will definitely have an early anatomy scan for the heart around 16 weeks (perinatologist did this last time) and then a fetal echocardiogram around 26 weeks at my son's pediatric cardiologist. It's pretty weird to lie on the same table where he has his exams! He will probably think it's great that the tables are turned.

The maternal serum tests (that are typically part of the triple screen or quad screen) test for levels of particular hormones in the mom's blood, and levels outside of a normal range can indicate an issue. Those tests are only screening tests and not definitive diagnostic tests.

The MaterniT21 test extracts the baby's cells (that the placenta sheds into the mother's bloodstream) and chromosomally looks at the baby's actual cells to check for three different trisomies, and also gender normality (since there are a few chromosomal disorders where the baby might have sometimes besides an XX or an XY). It's not just a screening test and is 99% accurate with its results.

Yes, I had understood the difference- just wasn't sure what the term "maternal serum" was referring to in this instance. The baby cells come out of the maternal serum- not through extraction from inside the uterus. I didn't realize maternal serum was a term for the screenings.

Thanks for explaining that, Harmony96. I couldn't. "Maternal serum" was all that my doctor called it. I actually have no idea which screen it is, but I do know that it just gives chances and is not as accurate as other tests available today. I don't think those other tests are available here (in Canada) yet. I also did not get the nuchal translucency u/s, which seems to be a regular part of the screen in the US. Unfortunately, I won't know the results of anything until 20 weeks.

I did have an unscheduled appointment yesterday at 18 weeks because I had very thick gelatinous discharge over the weekend and I was worried I was losing my mucous plug. The doctor said not to worry as there was no blood and my cervix is closed and we heard the heartbeat again. I would personally not be comfortable with using the doppler every day because we don't really know long-term effects, but I do understand that it is important to hear the heartbeat for reassurance. For me, I think I would be comfortable with once/week, but right now I seem to be hearing it every 3 weeks. I actually felt the baby move yesterday while the doctor was listening with the doppler. It was amazing.

I totally didn't know this thread existed. It would have been really helpful last week. I recognize most of the names here and it's so good to see some of you again. With that said, my first post here is a little... depressing? Last week was the due date for the baby we lost in January. It was unexpectedly awful and I really wasn't prepared for the waves of feelings. Making matters more difficult is that I was due the same week as five of my friends, two of whom shared the identical due date. Facebook was overwhelming with the pics of new babes or happy expectant mamas. It was even worse that no one remembered the date at all.

I shouldn't have been surprised and I guess I wasn't, but it hurt so much that no one remembered to check in and ask how things were going. My husband didn't even remember the specific day, which again makes sense, but still hurt. I hope I would remember to check in with a good friend who I knew was due the same day as me, but maybe people avoided the issue out of concern or something or just forgot because being 40 weeks pregnant is super stressful anyway. I don't know. All this is to say that I totally understand it, but it just hurt and it was so lonely and no one understood why. My husband and I had a really good talk and he admitted that he was pretty much feeling like "we're pregnant again, so the previous pregnancy didn't really matter." Which might be what everyone else was thinking too. I've just never really had a grief like this where no one else even remembers, let alone really understands. I figured this group would.

I'm feeling better this week and the edge is off somewhat, so I'm not crying on a hair trigger anymore. It just sucks and I'm now feeling somewhat resentful toward friends when I know that's really not fair and I just need to move on. So I'm trying. But how has everyone else done with due dates? I know some of you were also due in July, so I can't be the only one feeling kind of crappy around now. Did any of you privately commemorated the loss? Or did you find it easier to just let it go by? Thoughts?

Beautiful baby girl born 8/13/2012. Little star baby lost at 10 weeks pregnant, 12/18/2013. Currently due 12/13/2014 with a rainbow.
