I am fairly new to this site, because I am fairly new to sn parenting. I just need to tell someone what happened to my dd. I have never actually told someone what happened. My dd was full term, uncomplicated delivery and came home perfectly heathly. She was a great breastfeeder, and slept well at night. She was hitting all her milestones right on time.

When she was 4 months old, she stopped breathing during her nap. CPR started, paramedics came, lots of meds to get her heart started..etc. She was in the hospital for 6 weeks (3 wkks in ICU). The oxygen deprivation left her with a "severe anoxic brain injury." She now has a trach and g-tube, she lost all her milestones. They ran every test known to man, and can not tell me what happened. If she had not made it, they would have ruled it SIDS.

She is making progress, and I am grateful to have my child, but I miss her smiles. I also really miss nursing her, my dh is great, but her does not understand how much I miss nursing her and that using the breatpump is just not the same.

Thank you for letting me just say what I needed to say.

Wife to M , Mommy to DS aka Captain Obvious  (06/06) and DD aka Lissalot  (03/09, anoxic brain injury)

None of us planned to be SN parents. It's a crazy, wild ride. Please know that we are here to support you.

hugs and thoughts.
I think this is a good forum for you to share your struggles. I think there are a lot of moms who have a variety of challenges and a great deal of love and understanding to share w/ you and others.

i'm not a mom yet (still trying) but imagine what you are going through isn't easy. really, I'm sending you a lot of hugs.

Sounds like quite a journey. You are an amazing mama for all you do for your daughter, and all you have both been through.

My DD had a severe brain injury too, but it happened at or prior to birth (we don't know since she never had heart decels and everything else was picture perfect). I've "met" (online) other parents whose children had brain injuries after birth (some were toddlers and walking and talking). It's hard anytime and you just never know. I try not to take it for granted that I also have a healthy child...he could suffer a brain injury too! Makes me paranoid...

Anyway, My DD's blog is in my profile if you want to peek. She's very disabled but absolutely beautiful and very smart (even though she can't talk, she communicates very effectively).

You are at the right place. All the mamas here are pretty great!
I'm going to offer up a thoery here, and please don't think I am saying it to make you feel guilty or anything. But it seems like you would like an answer so here goes...
Have you considered the possibility of a vaccine injury to be the cause of what happened to your daughter? I obviously don't know your daughter or her vax schedule, so I could be way off base, but there is a pretty strong feeling, especially on this website, that SIDS is often linked to vaxes, especially the DPT vax. I hope I haven't offended you, just wanted to let you know about a possibility.

DD had not yet received her 4 month vaccines (we had an appt for that week), so we know it is unrelated. No offense taken. I think all mamas who go through this just want an answer as to why it happened.

Huge, huge hugs for you and your daughter. I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes from reading your story. What a shock that must have been for you and it would certainly be natural to be grieving the loss of your baby's health - what happened is simply not fair. You are in the right place and I hope you find a lot of comfort, support and love here.
