do you ever hear yourself saying something (or doing something) that just strikes you as so bizarre or ridiculous that you have to crack up? I KNOW that it's not REALLY funny, but my only excuse right now is pregnancy hormones. This afternoon, I heard myself say to DS, in a very calm and reasonable tone as though this were totally normal (and it our house, it kind of is), "Honey, please don't chew on your socks".

I've been laughing to myself about it since this afternoon. Anyone else ever find themselves in a similar spot??

SAHM to my and and due in summer 2010, married to my best friend.

I'm always telling my oldest to stop chewing his clothes-it drives me nuts! And he isn't diagnosed as having an SPD.

dd2 hasn't been evaluated yet, but she will be. my favorites are:

"Don't chew the hands and feet off the Polly Pockets!"

or

"Please don't bite my butt/leg/arm."

or

"Spit the thumbtack/staple/penny/marble/sequins/aluminum foil out."

There's more but I can't think of any at the moment.

Not SPD, but ASD, so some issues are similar.

Yesterday in the parking lot I had to remind DS, "Please don't put your head on other people's vehicles."

This reminds me of my DD with SPD. I'm constantly telling her "We don't touch other people's cars/clothes/heads/dogs/babies, etc.

And I'm always asking her, "What did you put in your mouth? Is that food? We don't put theraputty/stickers/flowers/boogers, etc. in our mouths." (Though to be fair, she's definitely not the only toddler I've seen eating her own boogers!)

Yes! We also have the touching here, I'm constantly telling her to keep her hands to herself. My favorite was before we had a dx "honey you cannot eat the wipes/soap (depending on if it was bathtime or diaper changes)".

Every day!

It's all about chewing here. I'm always telling him "The dog's tail is not a chewy" or "Chairs are not chewies." Or "Please don't lick the TV/ your sister/ the bathtub."

You have to be very, very specific with him. Yesterday he was playing with some salad tongs and was pretending to give a doll a haircut. He started to pretend to cut his sister's hair (she's 12 mo) and I told him that we can't cut her hair. So I turned around for 30 seconds and she starts wailing. He told me that he tried to cut her eye out. That one wasn't as funny. But I still couldn't believe I was telling him not to cut his sister's eye out. lol.

To the child that will NOT eat anything by mouth: "VeeGee, please stop licking the mop."

"No, you may not lick me."

"Please stop drinking the bathwater."

DD is 3-almost-4. she's an aspies kid, and i find myself saying things that i never imagined i would, but they seem so normal to me now!

"we don't pee in the playground/street/front yard"

"don't stick your tongue in the baby's mouth"

"too loud, too loud, TOO LOUD!"

"get the cat out of the flowerpot and stop poking her with drumsticks"

"we don't bite. i'm sorry i hurt your feelings, but we don't bite!"

"put your pants back on!"

and new this morning:

"butter doesn't go in Papi's shoes!"

I can top that! I frequently have to ask DS to stop chewing on his toes! He also licks his hands incessantly .
