UPDATE:

Well, DS of course would not take the bowel prep. We were admitted the night before, he was sedated and given a nasogastric tube. They pumped in the prep overnight. No fun for anyone :( He responded poorly to the anasthesia and did not awaken for 8 hours and spiked a temp.

The colonoscopy revealed nodular lymphoid hyperplasia. We are waiting on biopsies to either be referred to immunology or oncology. :(

Due to recurring intussceptions, (3 in all and one requiring emergency surgery) our pediatric GI specialist has ordered a colonoscopy for Feb 11th for our 15 month old DS.

Our family is no stranger to the joy known as bowel preps. DH has Ulcerative Colitis with multiple scopes and surgeries. They are checking DS for Crohn's :(

DS does not take bottles and does not really take a sippy cup. I don't think we can get enough bowel prep in him by regular cup. We are using flavored Pedalyte and Mirilax.

Any great ideas? Ideally, the doc wants him to have 4 8 oz cups, but half of that is fine. Basically, the more prep he gets, the better scope the doc can get.

Help!!!!

Oh boy. I hope it's easier than you anticipate.
I'm glad he doesn't have to drink the adult stuff. Has he ever drank out of any type of cup (open, straw, etc.?)

I wonder if frozen into popsicles might get some more down...don't know if miralax will freeze/set though.

I do not have experience with this, but DO NOT freeze pedialyte into popsicles.  BAD idea - they taste super salty and are really gross.  Like, Horrifyingly disgusting.  Will he drink from a straw?  Not a straw sippy, but if you have a drink with a plain old straw and pretend to drink it like its the best thing ever would he go for it?

Thanks for the pedalyte tip! I will try the straw thing. He does have hypotonia so sucking may be difficult. But, I will try anything!

:)  we tried pedialyte popsicles with my ds when he was dehydrated once, and he wouldn't eat an ice pop for MONTHS afterwards!  LOL!

I was just wondering, can you give the miralax to him in something sweet that he would like drinking?  Pedialyte is super salty and yucky tasting (the best flavors though are the fruit blend and the apple if you must use them - bubblegum is the WORST - I know b/c when I get sick I drink pedialyte to keep hydrated lol).

Good luck!  Hugs to you and your ds!!

Does it have to be pedialyte? Can you freeze a juice or fruit drink? My hypotonic (mild) child took a long time to master straws. He had a horrible time sucking out of many sippy cups too. But he has other issues and straws do seem easiest when he got used to it. Straw cups are harder it seems--regular straws easier to suck.

I'd express your concern to the doctor/nurse.  Our doctor allowed us to give a very high dose of miralax in a small amount of liquid.  But, definately ask your doctor what the dose should be.  At that age, we would sometimes squirt liquids into my son's mouth with a syringe. He actually kinda liked that.   Also, he seemed to enjoy picking out a new cup at the store.  He'd use it a little more till the novelty wore off.

Thank you for the replies. I was thinking of going to the WF store for some electrolyte replacer. My other mama friend designed a nipple that he doesn't need to suck from, and he took some smoothie through it today! Wish us luck!
