Ds is 7, SPD, ADHD, and possible AS.  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a compression shirt that is soft enough and cool enough to be used as an undershirt?  I find a lot of the Under Armour type shirts to be too heavy to be layered, especially with a hot summer ahead, and it's not really his "style" of shirt for an only.

I know this sounds crazy, but actually, the idea of a really lightweight "girdle" just around the middle would help him feel and engage his core, which I think is the crux of his difficulties in everyday.  When his core is not engaged, he gets really "floppy."  We work on strengthening skills, and he's definitely very strong when he engages, but his usual posture is disengaged.

Does anything like these ideas exist?

You should check out SPIO: http://www.spioworks.com/ They make shirts for this reason that provide the input and can fit under children's clothing. I have seen these work well w/ kiddos with SPD and / or on the autism spectrum that I've worked with. :)

You might want to try an abdominal binder.

The "binder" certainly is more affordable. Have you tried them? Are they hot?

I like the SPIO shirts too, if they have ds's size on sale. smile.gif.

Thanks for these tips! Glad to know something exists along these lines.

My son (age 8 with ASD) loves the compression shirts from Fun & Function.

He wears the plain white and plain navy under his regular shirts.
