Experience with infant weight loss?

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with what metabolic or other types of disorders could cause this...trying to figure out if something is going on with DD2!

She is 8wks old, gained weight very slowly up to 6wks (only 4oz above birth weight), then by 8wks had lost weight to 3oz below birth - 6lb 11oz. She is very alert & happy, good muscle tone, otherwise healthy and meeting developmental milestones, nursing practically non-stop, but just isn't gaining weight!

She has plenty of wet/poopy diapers, so I know she's getting enough milk (plus all 3 sibs were EBF and gained fine). But her stool is runny & oily-looking, not quite what I remember from my other babies.

It just seems like whatever she's taking in just is not "sticking to her ribs", and she's scary-thin. Dr ordered blood work, which didn't show anything alarming - just slightly low blood sugar & slightly elevated liver enzymes. Still waiting on the thyroid test results, and Dr is consulting with a specialist at Children's Hospital, so we're trying to get this figured out.

Very worried about my sweet baby - just wondered if anyone has any thoughts?? TIA!!

First, I have a bias, because DH has Cystic Fibrosis (CF), but I might inquire about a CF screen. Children with CF often present with weight loss, and greasy and oily stools.

Of course, I imagine there are a lot of other possibilities. It sounds as though you are doing everything right. I hope the specialist is able to get some answers for you.

Thanks, @treehugger86 - she was admitted to Children's for 6 days, still doing follow-ups, so I haven't been on here much (just saw this - sorry!). See cross-post for more: http://www.mothering.com/forum/27-b...ght-loss-8wk-old-so-worried.html#post18233641

CF has come up, and tomorrow depending on how the Dr feels about her weight, she may order a sweat test...newborn screen was negative, but it's only 95% accurate. We also see the metabolics team tomorrow, so hopefully will have some answers.

Thanks for the helpful pointers and good thoughts. :) Will update when we know more!

Blessings to you & yours!!
