I've been working on my certification to teach special education for a couple of years now, and I start my student teaching tomorrow. I'll be in resource with K-2nd graders.
I tried to find the old thread I created when I first started working on my certification, but I can't find it.
This is path that I never would have considered if it hadn't been for my daughter with autism. There were times that raising her was so tough, and if someone would have told me that eventually I would want to teach special education I would have laughed at them. Now, there is really nothing I would rather do than to spend my days working with kids with challenges, and with helping to support their parents.
She's busy at community college and is arranging to volunteer at a used bookstore. She's growing up, and she really doesn't need me the way she used to, which is a beautiful thing.
