He's said "mama" before, a few months ago was the first time (he's 2.5). Just sort of like saying "You're mama," not asking for me or anything. He's never said it again since. Finally, today, during swim therapy he got scared and reached his arms out and frantically called "MAMA!"

My baby knows me. :

Woo-hoo! : And one thing I believe is during that time before when he wasn't saying it with words, he was saying it, he just couldn't show it. Enjoy, Mama!

When that day arrives after waiting and hoping for it for so long it is soooo monumental and fabulous! I'm so very thrilled for you, mama.

You go! That is such great great news!
I recently saw an episode of Nanny-whatever-it-is and the mom (who was really young) had two girls and an autistic boy. I kept thinking, she needs to read this board. Some of the nanny tips (on this particular show--I can't say anything about the rest, I've never watched it) were pretty good.
But I kept thinking--why isn't this boy in EI?
Anyway, OT (meaning off topic, not occupational therapy ) CONGRATULATIONS! You are doing a great job mama, keep it up!

Oh what a wonderful moment for you!!

(My 37 mo only says "mama", "dada", "nana", and after 6 mos of therapy "now" for "no"! He first said it at the library and everyone thought I was going overboard but they didn't understand my joy!)

Sincerely,
Debra

This made me chuckle, I totally understand. Yeah, normally I'm really good about letting the therapist push him and make him mad if it means helping him, but when he cried out "MAMA!" and reached for me, that was all she wrote. Forget pushing him, give me my baby!!!

oh mama!! i am crying right now i am so happy for you!!
that is just so beautiful-i totally understand how much joy that would bring
i was just mentioning tonight to my husband that our little guy has said daddy before-
(though its a *very* rare thing and its not said in a "regular" voice, but he does know it..which makes me really glad!!)
but that i dont think hes ever said mama at all.. so i really cant wait to hear that,too..and basically, any words at all
(he never did have many even before he lost them, hes always been "different",he didnt seem okay until 18/24 months
or anything like that)..i know i will want to run and shout to the whole world about it when he does start talking.
i am so,so very happy for you,and for your sweet little guy
