I was just reading the Roll-call for this board and can identify some of the abbreviations but honestly have no idea about how these challenges effect children--and honestly have no idea about some of the things folks posted.

I'd love to learn as much as I can about your wee ones. If you don't mind, can we start a dictionary of sorts that talk about our special needs are and how they manifest themselves?

I seem to be the only one here with Hirschsprung's Disease (HD). DS has short segment HD meaning that only about 1 inch of his colon was nerveless.

About Hirschsprung's Disease

That link tells a lot about the disease. It's not really complicated.

HD is the only thing that my son has, it's not related to other abnormalities and he will be totally normal after his 2nd surgery. We believe that it runs in the family. There is a great uncle who died many years ago (around 8 months of age) who had the same symptoms as DS. They never found out what was wrong.

HTH...I don't know what all those other abbreviations are either, so if we could make a list...

My son has Asperger's Syndrome, which is an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. ASD's affect the language use and development, range of interest, and social development of those affected. They also commonly affect fine motor development and sensory integration.

Ladies, if you will all give me the acronyms I will make a sticky and put it at the top of the board. I'll wait a bit so I don't have to edit to add new ones everyday, but list all the ones you think will be necessary here and I'll do it soon.
