To me it's just a matter of saying, "Hey, world, this person is/was successful and they are/were/might be on the autism spectrum. Don't pity my child because he is autistic." Not that the common view here at Mothering is necessarily one of pity. I just wanted to start a fun thread about autism. Of course, I cannot actually diagnose someone, especially someone I don't even know!

One more and I think I am through: Chance the Gardner (Peter Sellers character in Being There. I have not actually seen the entire movie, so this could be way off base.)

Neville is way less quirky than Luna but I see a lot of social difficulties for him. i don't know if that is because he has a sense of worthlessness instilled by his G-ma or if it is a spectrum thing, or both. i also visualize Neville as having difficulty with eye contact, perhaps it was just something I inferred or assumed, but that's just the way I always pictured him.Couple that with his serious obsession with plants and that kind of sealed it for me. Neville really reminds me of my DS 1. Who knows, maybe Neville is only autistic in my mind, LOL!!!!

Definitely!

Hmmm.... Alan Greenspan.

Anne Tyler is at the very least SPD, and so are most of her characters (Jeremy, the protagonist of "Celestial Navigation" is clearly classically autistic).

Ada McGrath (protagonist of "The Piano").

I'll think of some more later.

Oh, and both Pinky and The Brain.

Oh, definitely!

A friend of ours used to quote Pinky & The Brain endlessly. It was hysterical! (Hmm. He may have been on the spectrum, also.) I've forgotten most of them, but my brother had this one as his yahoo IM message for awhile:

Brain: Brilliant, Pinky! Oh, no, wait. What if we want to use a plan that works?

I read somewhere that he actually has bipolar disorder. Oftentimes ADHD goes along with Bipolar....and ADHD can look like autism in some people......

That's Collin Creevy. I haven't really seen enough of him in either the movies or the books to come to a conclusion about him, but he might be on the spectrum.
