I know this isn't specifically SN related, but a few months ago I started a thread about losing weight as a special needs parent, how we have challenges most other parents don't have to deal with (so many appts, therapies, a child that can't be left with a sitter, can't go to a gym daycare, the emotional toll that often leads to comfort food
) At the time I said that I was going to sign up to run the Air Force Marathon, which is in my city every year in September.
The race was today! I did it! I had a lot of fun and made my goal time (which wasn't spectacular, it was an average of 10 minute mile pace). I injured my ankle a week and a half ago on a training run (I stepped in a pot hole...it was 6:30am, dark, raining, and I was running against traffic so had headlights in my eyes) but I taped it up so tight that it was real stable for the race. It didn't bother me while running, but the tape gave me a blister and now that I untaped it, I can hardly walk on it
I'll give it a few days of rest and see how it is...not sure if I need to get it seen or not.
The race was amazing...the whole experience...I ran with my cell phone and my camera and took pictures all along the way (start line, water stations, plane fly overs, mile markers, finish line, the 4-star general who gave me my finisher medal, mascots at the finish line, my kids when I ran past them
There were over 9000 runners, so it was quite an event!!!
