Hello!

I am 40 yrs old and have 3 adopted children (ages 22, 20, and 17) and I have one grand daughter that is 1.  I have been doing Doctor Assisted IUI for four times.  I found out on Valentines day that I was pregnant!!

Then yesterday I found out that we are having Twins!!!  My IUI was on Feb 3 so yesterday I would have been 7w1d pregnant.

Baby A measures 6w3d with a heartbeat of 132, Baby B measures 7w0d and has a heartbeat of 132.  No morning sickness, no spotting at all.  I am tired and have sore breast and that is all my symptoms!! I couldn't  believe I was pregnant, and now I have been told there are two!!

I am so happy, but nervous.  I am also an overweight mother (256).  I had the lap band done in 2007 and lost over 100 pounds.

Any books I should start reading up on ?  Any free advice will be gladly taken!!

Congratulations!!!  How incredibly exciting it is!  I'm also pregnant for the first time - with twins.  (18 weeks, this coming Tuesday).  I was extremely nauseous and fatigued from about six weeks on, though improving a bit by 14-15 weeks, and MUCH better since hitting 17.  I'm glad you're not feeling as ill, and hope your twins grow beautifully, without your pregnancy symptoms being quite so intense!

Books recommended to me, which I also saw mentioned warmly on another thread, were: When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, by Barbara Luke; and Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More, by Karen Gromada (pub. La Leche League).

Other than being gentle to yourself - resting and eating enough and, if you exercise, being willing to do so often, but perhaps more mildly - the only advice I am far enough along to impart is: try not to worry!  Carrying two babies really intensified the anxiety I felt when I only knew there was one. But the stress of worry makes the pregnancy much harder, and the further I get, and the less I fear I might lose them, the happier I am able to be about their existence, and the easier each day is.

Again - very warmest congratulations!

Congratulations, and welcome to MDC! The Barbara Luke book and Mothering Multiples were the two that were most helpful to me.
