So I have 8 month old twins and they seem to want the same toy at the same time. I do a lot of redirecting, but any suggestions on dealing with a dominant child who takes from the other? How early do you start the idea of sharing? They will sit down and pass a toy back and forth sometimes...very cute. They giggle and smile and seem to have fun. Other times one will take from the other and then there are tears. I highly reinforce the sharing and try to redirect the "taking". Is this what other mommas have experienced?

My mom read somewhere that children can't intellectually understand sharing until they are much older (like six), but that you CAN teach the idea of taking turns. That's the idea that I've worked with with my kids (now 2 years) and it seems to work (as much as one could expect anyway).

I used to be worried that my ds was bullying my dd by taking things, but then I started watching more carefully and realized she would "let" him take something from her so that she could go get the item she actually wanted. Also, they seem to trade being the dominant one as they go through different developmental stages (day to day, week to week and month to month).
