I was just wondering if you had any tips for the australian side lying position. I found this picture on your website: http://www.karengromada.com/images/...lying_combo.jpg and I think I figured out how to do it, but it is kind of awkward. My babies are only 2 weeks old and my breasts kind of smother their noses in this position. So I have to keep my fingers in place so they are able to breath. Is this just because my babies are still so small or could I be doing it wrong? It works in a pinch when they both need to nurse at night and I don't have the energy to get everyone all propped up on the nursing pillow, but it is not quite as easy as the picture makes it look. Thanks for any tips!

If you're able to BF both at once in bed at only 2 weeks, you're all doing pretty dang well! You can teach us! (How about getting a photo for posting on my web site so others can learn from you and your babies? Please?)

Wow, you are doing AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you swaddle them tight, then you can stack them and nurse. Really, they won't mind, just lay one baby right on top of the other one. I needed to prop myself up on an elbow and hold the top babe in place, but it worked until they got too wiggly. Then I just layed onto my back slighty and laid the top baby on top of my stomach, instead of his brother.

They're not typos. . . I can't spell!

Sure, Karen, I can have my husband take a picture today. My babies don't really liked to be swaddled but I guess I can give it another try. I did the stacking thing at first until I found this other side lying position and this new one works better for us.

That goes for anyone else with photos to share with other MOT/MOMs. Thanks.

Nancymom, you are a nursing genius . . . I don't think I could nurse side-lying or laying down till mine were much older (partly b/c of c-section pain, but still . . . ) And mine never when for the stacking thing (until they were old enough to crawl on eachother by themselves)

Congrats - you're doing great!

Wow Nancy! I can not beleive how good you are at that, you were meant to nurse twins! I can not even get mine to nurse together during the day, much less at night. They hit eachother and get mad and are on and off and never just settle down and nurse.

Karen - I have a couple pics I might send you if I can get it together also.

Those are wonderful pics! You're good!
Thank you for posting them.
What kind of sling are you wearing? It seems to stretch enough for 2 to fit.

Wow, the ultimate in multi-tasking! Now if we could only convince a rocker-recliner company to manufacture said chair with a built-in commode...

Lovehomebirth, are you planning a homebirth with your twins? I just had a great home waterbirth with the twins if you have any questions. Congratulations!

Yep, and hopefully another waterbirth too! Can't wait!!! I had a super fast labor with my last dc (90 min start to finish) so I plan on having the tub filled with fresh water that I'll change out every couple of days so it's ready to go. My only real concern is that no one will be there for the birth (as in NOBODY) if it goes real fast and I'll have to put the first baby down on the floor while I birth the second one. For some reason I have these numbers in my head - 12 & 23 (had them in my head since before I knew there were 2 babies) and I believe it means that the first will be born in 12 min & the second in 23. Yikes!

Wow, you have very quick labors!! My twin labor was half the time of my first labor but it was still over 18 hours. My babies were born 1 hour and 1 minute apart, too. Have you seen Mindyleigh's video of her unassisted twin birth? I really want to watch it but I haven't seen it yet. Good luck to you, I am sure you are going to have a wonderful birth.

Yes, I own that one. It's great - I just showed it to my mom the other night and I think it helped ease her fears (since her knowledge of twin births is fear-based).

love_homebirthing - I had my twins at home super fast. I woke up at midnight with super strong super close contrax and had Byron at 1:20am and Miles at 1:35 am. I had them in a pool in the living room that we had filled earlier in the evening (I took castor oil so we figured we would have them that night, I know it is horible stuff & I would never do it again but I was getting desperate to get them out). Filling it up and changing every couple days is a good idea. We covered our with a layer of plastic and then a fluffy down throw and it stayed nice and warm and was the only place I wanted to be. It was so great to have it already filled so I coiuld get right in as soon as I woke up in labor.

Nancymom:

thanks so much for posting those pictures of them stacked. I've been stacking my 10day old twins for a couple of nights now, and it has been a life saver at 2am

They don't like to be swaddled either, and Catherine tries to clobber her bother when she is on the bottom but we are working it all out.
