Two lovely little boys, that is! After a fantastic natural birth attended by our doula and OB that I truly adore, we've been blessed with our sons, a couple of weeks early (35w 1d).
Here's the scoop:
Baby A: Elijah David, 4lbs 15oz, 18 1/4", born at 2:54pm, 24 June 06
Baby B: Samuel Frederick, 5lbs 15oz, 18 1/2", born at 3:01pm, 24 June 06
Labor was pretty smooth and, dare I say, easy compared with my daughter's. Labored "lightly" at home on Friday night, figured it was the real thing on Saturday morning with contrax that were coming about 3 minutes apart. Doula went with us to the hospital that morning, got checked in and got the absolute best NCB-friendly L&D nurse. My OB was there and just hung around the department while we did our thing. I requested he break my water when I lingered at 7cm for several hours (with a "very stretchy" cervix and bulging bag of waters). Labor got more intense and about 20 minutes later I walked into the OR to deliver (a concession to my OB), while a 3-ring circus awaited the delivery. About 3-4 pushes for each kiddo and they were out--both "sunny-side up," which partly explains the lingering at 7cm.
Both boys are having a short stay in the NICU, mostly in the "feed 'em and grow 'em" room, but are doing very well, learning to coordinate sucking, swallowing and breathing mostly. Both show very good nursing behaviors, too, and I'm pumping milk like a holstein now, so the future's pretty bright!
