I'm wondering about this. I had an early pregnancy loss about a year before getting pregnant w/ my twins.
I have noticed some other moms of multiples mention having had a miscarriage before their multiples.
So I guess I'm interested if it is related.

I hadn't ever really thought about a connection. But yes I had a m/c about 10months before and then again 6 months before I got pg w/the twins.

I've thought about this too. I had a mc between my two dds. That was four years before this pregnancy, though. Then, with my second dd, I was measuring four weeks ahead at 10 weeks and had an early u/s to determine twins. There was only one baby, but I've often wondered if a twin had vanished before the u/s.

I wondered about this too. I had a m/c Feb 2006 and then in March 2006, I got pg with my twins.

I had a m/c in Jan, then got pg with twins in June. I also had a m/c before I had dd, though, too, and she is a singleton.

Interesting, I wonder if there have been any studies about this. Because I know that I read somewhere that after a spontaneous early mc women are more fertile, in the sense that women tend to convceive more quickly, but I hadn't heard about a connection w/ multiples, it just seemed anecdotally like there was a lot of this going on.
Does anyone know of any studies like this?

I had two m/c's before my spontaneous twin pregnancy. The stats-girl in me would want to know how many women have m/cs before conceiving a full-term healthy baby (or babies) and then see if there's a higher correlation between MC's and multiple birth pregnancies.

Interesting, thanks for asking!

I never confirmed a pregnancy, but my first "AF" was so heavy that I felt pretty sure it was a M/C. I couldn't leave the house because I was bleeding so bad. Then 6 weeks later I concieved my twins.

There is also a study seeing if their is a link between bfing at conception and concieving identical twins. Mine are ID and I was bfing my 13month old when they were concieved.

No m/c. but I had the wackiest periods before conceiving spontaneous MZ twins. I had a very short luteal (sp?) phase once I got AF after my son weaned, so I started taking B6 about six months before conceiving. Anyone else with a short lutual phase (time between ovulation and period?)

(I don't meant to hijack the thread -- but I am always curious of what might be a "cause" of twinning).

I miscarried a pregnancy and got pregnant with the twins literally right after... no cycle in between (lost the pregnancy at around 4w5d on 5/25... twinkies were concieved on 6/5.) Since they're fraternal- I definitely think it had something to do with me dropping two eggs!

full time, single, slightly soggy WOHM to Juliet (12.31.2004 @ 36w5d) and Willow & Adam (2.22.2007 @ 39w5d, HBAC transfer) and... expecting my little womb warrior Eowyn Susanne in September

I had a sort of "double" miscarriage, in that I bled a lot, then spotted for a long time, then woke up one morning with terrible cramps, almost fainted, passed some tissue, and bled heavily again. I had one "normal" period. During the next cycle, I conceived fraternal twins. I was 43 years old. I guess my body went into overdrive. I know some people think you're more fertile after a miscarriage. Don't know about twins, though. I do know that women are supposed to be more likely to ovulate more than once as they reach the end of their fertility. I was breastfeeding my daughter at the time I conceived my twins (and through the 1st trimester of my twin pregnancy).

When we tried for #3, I was almost positive I was pregnant when trying TTC in Feb, had all the syptoms very swollen tender boobs etc. I did get what I thought was my period almost a week late and it was an extra strong one. I wondered if I did have an early miscarrage. Then we tried again the next month in March and got pregnant with ID twins.

I had three miscarriages at 18 months, 12 months, and six months prior to conceiving twins. (Then I lost one of the twins **sigh**).

I had a m/c a few months before I conceived my boys. Incidentally, I was also nursing my daughter at the time (and all through the pregnancy) and they are MZ.

I seem to have a pattern though. My first pregnancy ended in m/c, about a year later I had my daughter. When she was 5 months old, I got pregnant, miscarried, and about 2 months after the miscarriage conceived my twins. I'm told it's not an uncommon pattern for some women to alternate m/c and full term pregnancies. It's still hard.

Though a certain part of me feels comforted that perhaps both my boy's spirits returned to me after the 2nd miscarriage, and that's why I had twins. It's more superstitious/a way for me to deal with my pain than science though.
