Sorry if this poll has been done already, but another thread got me thinking. I have read that several places that breastfeeding increases your chances of conceiving multiples so I thought it would be interesting to do a poll here.

I was breastfeeding when I conceived my identical twins but i've been told that the chances of conceiving identicals are the same no matter what you do.

I wasn't nursing, but I am 41 (Women are more likely to release multiple eggs when you're at the beginning and end phase of menstruation) and was in the first year or so of a new marriage. (Fraternal twins are more likely to be conceived in the early part of a new relationship, apparently because the sex is so hot.) I like to think it was reason number two since then I can tease DH that we conceived twins because he's so sexy that he made me release more than one egg!

Nursing and got pregnant with identical twins.

I hope that in my lifetime we get enough research to tell us the why behind identical twins!

I was exclusively breastfeeding my daughter when my MZ twins were conceived. Oddly enough, in talking with other multiple mamas who have similar spacing, a lot of the ones with MZ twins were breastfeeding at the time. I have had a few doctors geek with me about the possible reasons that it might make MZ twins more likely.

Mine were from IVF one cycle after an early miscarriage. I really was just trying to stay alive at that point. Breastfeeding was shrouded in mystery for me.

No longer.

I conceived fraternals at nearly 40 while BFing a 3 year old 2-3 times per day. Was concerned BFing may be holding things up but was not willing to stop. But we had fertility treatment--we did injectable ovulatory stims and IUI (and regular sex, so we don't really know if it was the IUI or the sex that did it along with the drugs). Did not tell fertility docs about BFing.

I was bf'ing my then 18-month-old dd when I conceived MZ twin girls. There is a doctor who did a study on the theory that bf'ing moms have a higher chance of conceiving MZ twins. I think I have the study saved. I'll try to find it and post it.
