Last night was unreal. I got up every 2.5 hours to pee. I'm not sure if baby B (who was breech) is now head down and giving my bladder a run for it's money or what. I usually get up 3 times a night or so, but dang!
I also couldn't get comfortable no matter which way I lay. On my right side, on my left side, on my back, nothing was comfortable for more than 5 minutes.
You sound like me for much of my pregnancy! I don't have any good advice except that I now find waking with the babes to nurse is so much LESS difficult than those pregnant nights when I couldn't sleep if I tried. So it was good for something!
I'm 38 weeks now and I get up about every 1.5-2 hours to pee. I'm just really grateful that it doesn't take much time at all to get back to sleep. Usually, at least. Every once in a while, it'll take 45 minutes or so, which is somewhat frustrating, but much less so now that I'm on maternity leave.
Keep drinking those fluids!
Oh, and I ended up with a folded-over body pillow for back support, a thick fluffy pillow for between my legs, and a small pillow to support The Belly. That helped immensely in getting comfortable in bed.
Unfortunately, my hips are so wide right now that by the time I have to get up to go pee, whatever side I'm lying on is throbbing and aching. Usually, the time between pee breaks is enough for the upper side to recuperate enough that I can lay on it again.
I was like that up until I delivered. I slept with a body pillow between my legs, a pillow under my belly, one behind my back and then two under my head.....
I got a memory foam mattress pad and that helped somewhat. But the reality is that you're probably just gonna be sore! I know that's how it was for me. It's just hard when you have that much weight on your hips, kwim?
yep it's normal. I think it's mother natures way of helping us get ready to get up and nurse several times a night. I used the snoggle total body pillow and it helped tons on getting more comfy at night I also used it to nurse with after and it was a life saver for me. The other thing I would do was after I would pee I would walk 3 laps around the bathroom then try again it helped to get a bit more out and give me about 15 extra min between wake up times

Poor DH!
That was about the time my dh started sleeping on the sofa sleeper!
I needed about 6 pillows to even sleep for a couple hours at a time. I still got up every 2 or so but at least I could sleep in between. You might as well kiss good sleeping goodbye for at least the next year or more.
Just one tip about the body pillow or pillow(s) between the knees:
My sister-in-law is a registered massage therapist. She pointed out to me that it is very important that the full leg be supported. IE: DON'T stick a pillow between your knees, and then let the calf and ankle rest on the bottom leg. You need pillow support right through the ankles and feet.
I don't know the "why" behind this. . . never got around to asking. I can tell you, though, that even that seemingly minor change was definitely more comfy.
Well, one more, I guess:
My hips were really sore. But I was totally perplexed that it was often the top one that got more sore. I discovered that the changes in body circulation must have been contributing to that top hip getting very cold - even though I was sleeping under a down duvet and that's usually not an issue for me at all. I needed to put a feather pillow on top of my top hip (over the blanket) just to hold every bit of heat in. When I would wake up for the next pee-trip, my top hip wasn't as sore and I could switch sides when I got back into bed.
Lindsey- I'm about as far along as you are- and nighttime for me is similar. I just got a prenatal body pillow that feels really comforting and helps with some of the pain. It's at Target, made by Boppy. It's all cotton with poly fill and not very expensive. It supports the entire leg. For me it's been sore ribs and/or hip on the side that's on the bed. Glad to know we're not alone.
