When I was expecting twins, I loved to see how the MDC mothers kept their babies in for such a long time. I knew that some twins come early, but reading the full-term birth stories were great. The poll about how our babies have been born has been great to show that twins CAN be born vaginally! So how long have we kept our babies in??? Let's inspire the new mothers out there!

Me... 37w5d. Babies were 6lb 8oz and 6lb 14oz.

ETA: That should be 31 - 32 weeks in the poll

37w3d. In hindsight I had a completely unnecessary failed induction that resulted in a c/s. Grr... They were big and healthy so no problems there but oh what I would do differently if I were to have more children (not in the plan).

Unnecessarily induced at 41 weeks. Resulted in miserable labor and birth a few days later. BUT I lied about my dates from day 1 so we got an extra week! I too would do thimgs differently, but am not having more children.

Me.  With 1 spouse, 4 kids, 16 chickens, 74 matchbox cars, 968,562+ legos, a dishwasher waiting to be emptied, a washing machine waiting to be filled and a lost cup of tea in the house.

I was 38 weeks +3 when my boys were born, but didn't vote as there wasn't an option for 38-39 weeks.

I delivered my twins at 35 weeks but went into preterm labor that was stopped at 32 weeks. I delivered by emergency c/s under general because I started bleeding the placenta to baby a was tearing away from my uterus. When her water broke the water looked more like blood because of all the blood. I am just happy to have all 3 of my kids be healthy....

Star~ mommy to 3 year old and B/G twins 5 months old....

Mommy to 4 wonderful kids.

my twins were born at 30 weeks after 2 weeks of hospitalized bedrest. Preterm labor began at 21 weeks, was rushed to Vanderbilt in an ambulance in full blown labor. It was terrifying. I did meds & bedrest then hospital bedrest at 28 weeks because my maternal fetal specialists didnt think id make it home without giving birth. When i checked in to the hospital that day I was in labor and remained unstable for 4 days. 1 of my drs camped out at the hospital that weekend, they were all shocked i didnt deliver that weekend! But i showed them Made it 2 more weeks!

My twins were only in the NICU for 4 weeks! Came home at 34 wks gestation!! They are almost 14 months old now and do everything your typical 14 month old baby does! Walking, talking, etc. Its awesome. We have been so blessed and SO LUCKY!!!

37 wks 4 days. I went into preterm labor at 35 wks, so went on bedrest with medicine to stop contractions. After a week, my peri said it would be OK to deliver after that, so we stopped bedrest and meds. But the babies stayed for another week and a half. Had a cs and both boys were wonderfully healthy. 6 lb 15 oz and 5 lb 10 oz. The smaller baby caught up within 3 months and is now 3 inches and 3 pounds bigger (at 5 years old!)

My twins were born 2 years ago (today!) at 29 weeks gestational age. I had been hospitalized with PTL 2 weeks prior and had run through magnesium sulfate, terbutaline, nifedipine, and indomethecin, all of which eventually failed to prevent me waking up at 2:30 in the morning bleeding (which turned out to be my version of "bloody show" - way more than I expected that to be), contracting, and dilating. They put me back on mag sulfate and I still went from 2+ to 6cm in about 3 hours. At that point they couldn't stop it anymore so I labored and came out with one vaginal birth, one medically necessary c-section.

Lilly and Kate spent 9 weeks in the NICU. Kate spent another 2-3 months on supplemental oxygen at home. As of today they are healthy 2-year-olds, completely caught up developmentally, though they are still quite small for their age.

I would not wish a preterm birth on anyone, but it does happen and I wanted to make it clear that there can be wonderful outcomes even from a pregnancy that ends like a trainwreck.

Betsy, mama to beautiful, strong MZ twins Lillian and Kate, born 11 weeks early on January 10, 2006.

I made it to 36w5d and then I was induced due to protein in my urine and BP was 150/100. During my induction my BP was almost back to normal. In hindsight I wish I'd avoided the induction but as inductions go mine was pretty good. Natasha weihed 6.5lbs and Nathan weighed 5lbs.

My first set, identical girls, were born at 38 weeks 3 days and weighed 7 lb 12 oz and 6 lb 9 oz. I had used some blue/black cohosh to encourage labor. Hindsight is 20/20 and I would not do that again.

My second set, fraternal boy/girl, were born at 39 weeks 1 day via c-section after spontaneous labor and a homebirth transport for a potential prolapsed cord (which never did prolapse). They weighed 6 lb 10 oz and 6 lb 15 oz. I think they were smaller because I was under more stress with that pregnancy. My singleton weighed 10 lb 3 oz so I make 'em big too.

And unfortunately I can only vote once for the poll. I voted for the 39 weeks since that's the farthest I went. But how discrimantory against those of use with multiple sets of multiples!

Born at 32w5d although I first went into labor at 28w, then again... I was on bedrest quite a while - I've actually forgotten how long.

34w2d, induced with cervidil due to IUGR for baby A from TTTS.

They were 3lbs 10oz and 5lbz 10oz.

They have always had a size discrepancy, right now they're 37lbs and 42lbs.

ETA: They were in the NICU for a week, but it was just to learn how to suck and swallow. Other than that, they were perfectly healthy. They were caught up developmentally and socially and size by about 1yo.

6lb 12oz and 7lb 12oz (MZ, so I'm wondering if there was a bit of TTTS happening since there was that much difference in weight)

I am curious about this too (my MZ girls, born at 37 weeks, were 5.6 and 6.2 -- 12 ounces isn't a ton but they sure looked different at birth!) and wondered if any TTTS mamas know. Could it just be different placement in the monochorianic placenta? Or different connection with the cord? My bigger girl is still bigger, has more hair, gets her teeth first, etc.

And I wanted to say thanks to the mama who said that good outcomes can still happen even with very early twins. I remember when I was pregnant with the girls, I was reassured both by stories of those who cooked their babes to term, and by those who survived NICU and got through it all OK.
