Sorry, never heard of her. Only theories I can partway remember from nursing school are Maslow's and Kiebler-Ross.

My school seems to be influenced by Dr. Madeleine Leininger.

http://www.kean.edu/~nursing/tni.html

I've heard more about her and transcultural nursing since I started this BSN program than anything else.

I don't know of any schools that are influenced by Watson.

Professors seem to have their own preferred nursing theorists who they talk about. One of my previous professors loved Martha Rogers.

My facility is trying to make her theory the way of life for nursing staff. They spent an insane amount of money on a lecture series for us and 95% of the staff eyeball rolled through the entire thing.

I hate theory, and I hate theorists. What a waste of time, money, and energy! I'd as soon punch Jean Watson in the face than shake her hand. Theories are purely a means to justify excessive classes on a BSN level as well as masters and doctoral dissertations. That's it. Give me a great, high level class on lab values, pharmacology, advanced patho, ANYTHING. Dump the theory classes in the toilet where they belong. Don't forget the courtesy flush.

I would so much love to have DON's,Managers,Theorists,Nursing Board folks and those in the Education and HIS(computer people) be made to come take a load of patients once in a while.

I agree, Lisa.

And obviously, based on my response, I am not a big follower of Jean's theory of "Caring".

We spent a large amount of time on Watson during our Theory class (for my BSN). I hated Theory. With a passion. So, I have blocked most of that out.

I do know that one of my fellow students used her theory for a project during her Leadership rotation. I hated Nursing Leadership class. So I have blocked most of that out.

Me , 36 year old RN and future AP mom in training . I am wife to one wonderful husband and "mom" to one great rescue pup :.

Hey, I know this post is a few days old, but I just wanted to let you know the nursing program that I'm in uses her theory at a big part of the curriculum. I go to Northwest Arkansas Community College (http://www.nwacc.edu). I'm only in my first semester and we've already talked about her a ton! So fun to be reminded how different curriculums are from program to program.
