Hey all, I live in NC where CPMs are not legal. Wondering if I could be denied short term disability if a CPM signs my paperwork. If so, could I get my primary care doctor to sign the paperwork (is that considered fraud?) I live in the Asheville area and there are not a lot of CNM that do homebirths. My policy is through colonial and my representative said I needed to send a copy of my midwife's credential with the forms.
I don't believe they would accept a signature from a CPM. You would probably need a doctor or CNM to sign off. I don't see that it would be fraudulent. The doctor just needs to say what your due date is and that you are having a baby. Then I believe they sign off on you being able to go back to work and what kind of delivery you had. Are you seeing an OB or other doctor along with the CPM for prenatal care? I would just call your doctor and ask them about the paperwork and see if they are ok with signing it even though they may not be there for the birth. My insurance has a medical secretary office, and I filled out paperwork with them and they sent it to my doctor and she signed it and they sent it back to me. It was relatively simple.
