Just realized I forgot another family. I know someone with 11 children (4 were adopted from another family member). So that would make a family of 13. That's the biggest family I know.

NO, I am not that old. I recall some cleric years ago saying that the reason we no longer see genius in our time is because of the lack of large families. I cannot place the guy or the time.
There is a list floating around out there. I've been seeing it for years. It's amazing how many of the geniuses from the Western/European cultures were middle or younger children in massive, massive families. I know the Bach family was gigantic.

For Christians, many of our best known theologians are from the same types of families. Charles and John Wesley. D.L. Moody.

Very interesting. I remember reading that only children or kids that have at least 5 years between them and their siblings are often exceptional. I like this theory because my 2 kids are 6 years apart!

My mom was one of 11 kids.

My grandparents had large families- around 10 kids each, I think.

The largest family I know of my generation is one with 11 children. One of my exboyfriends has 10 siblings. Spending time with his family really helped me to get over my prejudices against large families- they were so happy and loved spending time together.

After reading the rest of the thread, I'm ETA that that particular exboyfriend is supersmart and became a vice president for a mega-bank before age 30, despite the fact that he never graduated from college (dropped out due to lack of $).

New signature, same old me: Ann- mama of 2 boys and 2 girls, partnered to a fabulous man.
I'm an unintentional weasel feeder and I suck at proofreading.

My dad is #8 of 9. I grew up knowing a family of 15, several families of 7, 8, 9 children. Yes, I went to Catholic school!

In fact, our family is one of the smallest in our homeschool group - I only have 4 children.

Proud Catholic, homeschooling, RN-student mama of

My aunt's ex-husband was one of 19 kids that survived infancy. I think she had 22 total. The oldest is in his forties and the youngest in his twenties. I'm pretty sure there were a couple set of multiples in there somewhere.
