I'm going to be having baby number 2 any day now, and suddenly I'm not as crazy about the names we picked out as I was before.

I need to hear some interesting names really soon!!! I think I'll just know the baby's name when it is born, but I'm getting worried about it right now.

We like different, unusual names - especially greek and latin, but also Welsh and Galic. We're very much into our Scottish heritage, so something along those lines would be great, too.

We want names that have good and powerful meanings. Our son's name is Jonas, which means Peace.

The names we have picked out now are:

Boy
- Lucius (Greek/Latin meaning light)
- Julius (Greek meaning Youthful)

Girl
- Lavinia (Latin, meaning latin women)
- Llyonesse (Welsh, meaning Lioness and water)

So, does anyone have links and/or ideas for me?

Thanks for the help!

Edited for typo - it's Lavinia, not Levinia

I just wanted to share the name Rhiannon- it's dd's middle name and it is Welsh it kind of means goddess with majic. She was the being who brought majic to humans in welsh mythology. I think its beautiful and I am happy to share it with you.
Good luck, naming a child is really stressful, but I am sure you will find the perfect name.

Laura, Mama to Mya 7/02, Ian 6/07 and Anna 8/09

You could always go with Serena, which means "peaceful" in Latin......um, not that I am biased in any way about the name
I love your boy names. Another name I really like is Owen.

The Tabbie Family; DH , DS , DD , a few :, a couple : and me.

our master list to dip into for each kiddo.I dont remember what all the names mean...just a few

Boys: Clive (cliff dweller), Ace, Corben(raven), Roland, Spike

Girls: Dali(dale sweller), Hemi, Daphnie, Camilla, Gala

i cant remember the rest, and cant find the list. we just had a bunch of names swimming around in our head, and then when we saw our child, which turned out to be a girl...dh said she was Veronica May. so thats what she is.

good luck. ..what a happy time

Thanks for the replies so far.

The other thing is that we like using two middle names. We haven't quite decided on ones we like yet.

Boy - Xavier-Sky (like Zavier, not EXavier)

Girl - Willow-Sage

Our son's name is Jonas Vincent-Matthew, but that was easy because those are both family names. :

Hey - Willow is great! I thought that was unusual when I named dd, but since then we meet a Willow almost everywhere we go!

My daughters name is 'Arkela', a name that picked itself under the cedar tree after she was born. I couldn't have named her before meeting her!

Here are some ideas:

Caelan (m) (Scots Gaelic) "young warrior" (my sister is named 'Cailean')

Eira (Welsh) - snow (a good wintery name)

Delyth (Welsh) - pretty

I found the name : 'Candida' meaning 'white' on some name site. Who would name their daughter Candida??? (It is actually a beautiful word...but the YEAST for goodness sake!)

Have you dreamt any names yet? Sometimes your child will send you the name they would like that way. . .

Angus
Magnus
Zarabeth
Alec
Roland
Gavin
Gerald
Ariella
Cedar
Siobhan (sp? i love it, but can hardley spell it)
Merryn
Genovive (french prn: john-vee-ehv)

most of these I got from the romance novels i read, so I don't know the meaning behind them. however, they are set in ireland and scotland, usually so, i think they are somewhat galic/whelsh

I'm reading a book about a man named Pindar, and I just love it. The kids he hangs out with call him 'Uncle Pin.' Definitely not a lot of Pindars in my neck of the woods...

There's a girl at my school named Candida. I sort of cringe inwardly whenever I hear it... but I'm sure it has it's own life independent of the yeast thing.

I had picked out Trista ("sorrowful") Alethea ("truth") if Avery had been a girl. Dh didn't like that name, but I thought "sorrowful truth" was a cool name. Trista Alethea.... it's yours if you want it.

uh oh....forget those names I suggested....I was gunna open it with 'I dont usually give out 'my' :LOL names, but since this is a random board and you probably are in Nova Scotia or somewhere I will never see you, than who cares if our children have the same name....' I better edit my post.

they arent your thing, anyway, so I am not worried...maybe a variation?

I like the Sedona name, dont you? I dont like willow sage, but hey, your a bit more 'earthy' than me...:LOL

you can have 'clive', we decided against that one just now.

My favorite unusual boy names are: Nigel, Finlay, Thaddeus, Ryder, Bjorn, and Rex. What about Julian? You don't hear that too much these days and it goes well with Jonas?

Well, since we're not having any others I'll share mine too.

Girl:
Anathea (this was it if ds had been a dd)
Linece (pronounced Li-nay-say, short i sound)

Boy:
???
Jackson took us forever to agree on. Somehow I seem to have blocked all of my choices. DH wanted Thor : When ds was born I was actually disappointed (for 2 seconds) that he was a boy b/c I didn't love the name Jackson like I love Anathea.

My daughter's name is Avienda. Her dad got the name from the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan. He spelled it Aviendha, but we changed it. Her middle names are May (after my grt grma and also the month Avi was born) and Emerald for the May birthstone and cuz my partner (not marrried) likes gemstones.

Avima-
Aviendah is on my short list for girls! So Cool! I got it from Jordans books as well. I always thought that Avi is a cute nn and the full name just flows out of your mouth.

You can always try looking into Sci-Fi novels for names. A lot of times they take names or variations of names from Gaelic and other somewhat out of the way languages.

Ayla
Jondalar
Thonalan

Good Luck
