Is there a way to make yourself invisible to others if you're logged in to facebook? You know that feature where you can see which of your friends are online? I would like to be on facebook now and then, but between my parents and mother in law and other relatives who I don't want to "dump" as friends, I am constantly getting interrupted with messages.

Are you talking about the chat box? Click it open on the lower right hand bottom of your page so the window that shows who is online pops up, click options, and click "go offline".

Oh, I leave facebook up all the time. At first I got asked to chat quite a bit, but when people realized that I wasn't answering they stopped asking. I browse in tabs and have many sites open at once. I've got facebook open right now, and several work-related sites, and a news site, and some google results, MDC, etc, etc.

Just 'cause you've got a window open doesn't mean you're actually physically at your computer. They don't know when you are and when you aren't!

If you put vanishing cream on before you go on facebook, no one will see you there.

Yup. I never have chat on because I hate real-time chatting.

my problem is that i like to chat with certain people, and only one at a time. there doesn't seem to be a way to appear offline, but be chatting with certain people. its either on or off.

Actually, there is a way to do that! You have to create different groups. Like, I have "Friends" (meaning my close real life friends), "High school", "Church", a couple of others, and "No chat" . I put people in my No Chat group that I don't like to chat with...I just have that group turned off all the time even if I'm online.

Thank goodness for the ability to be invisible on FB. DH has a teenage cousin that I have met once who will chat the instant I log on if I don't hide myself. I have a hard time ending the conversation so i can, you know, feed the kids or something.

I would love to be able to customize who I appear online to. There are a few other people I would prefer not to chat wih (I mean, send me a message so I don't feel like I have to sit there and repond right away!). Yet there are others like a couple really good friends that I don't mind chatting with on the off chance we each have the time.

Sometimes I'll log on, see who else has a green light, then go invisible if I don't want to be bothered.

Oooooh, thanks, Mrs. Mama! I didn't see your post when I was replying. I'm going to try that.

I got one of those, works great OL, just wished it worked as well IRL.
