To see if you're smarter than Jennifer Aniston? I see those ads that have celebrity's IQs and give you the option to take your own, but since you have to give them your email address I've never done it.

IQ score distribution chart

2.27% of the population has an IQ higher than 130. Apparently a rather large proportion of those people have taken this here poll.

I've never been tested myself.

These tests aren't accurate.

I have no idea. I *think* I'm smarter than everyone else though!

Seriously, I was in the AG program in school. I know I scored in the 99th% on the CAT test in the third grade, and that's why they tested me for AG. I did not get in based on the written scantron test, but I did based on the one-on-one test. But, I've never had the attention span for standardized tests. I was always very frustrating to teachers. They always labeled me with the "smart but doesn't apply herself" label as I struggled to get through classes. It's only recently that I've realized that I think I may be ADD. It never occurred to me that everybody didn't have trouble focusing on work, until I recently realized that I can't get through five minutes at work without being distracted by something shiny.

No idea. I've taken a few different internet IQ tests, and got results ranging from 116 to 163. Naturally I prefer the latter but yeah, it doesn't give me much confidence in internet IQ tests. I always wanted to have my IQ tested just for curiosity's sake, but they don't do it routinely here - I don't know anyone who's had her IQ tested (or at least, who admits to it!).

If decomposition persists please see your necromancer.

Another issue is that the numbers have changed over time, along with the tests. For instance, a score of 140 on an old test would fit "moderately gifted," but on one of the more modern tests it would be "highly" or "exceptionally gifted"." Internet tests are not reliable or credibly standardized.

All that said, I think mothering.com members skew toward the smarties .

(Addendum: Society does appear to be getting smarter BTW... As above average 50 years ago would be much closer to average now. Ahem, I would also like to point out that society is getting more liberal... Make what you will of it.)

I was tested as a kid and my dad told me a few years ago that my IQ was 165. He had never told me before, and I remember taking the test but never knew what it was.
I think I'm dumber now, though. Can it leak out in the breastmilk? Is that where the higher IQ for breastfed kids comes from?

OK, even if those of us with higher IQs were more likely to have been tested and even if MDC attracts particularly intelligent people, there's no way 70% of us are above 130. In the state of PA that would mean 70% would be identified as gifted. Bull. Someone's lying or misinformed.

(I, naturally, really am gifted. )

It is probably a combination of people who are using inaccurate internet tests, and people only answering if they think they are "smart enough." Only 146 people have answered which is not very many out of 135,000+ registered members.

Most people have probably never participated in an IQ test, which makes me question how we can know what an average IQ really is in the first place. Not only that but IQ tests (like standardized tests) are notorious for being culturally biased towards middle class (white) values and assumptions.

I haven't been tested since I was 7 years old (like everyone else here it was for entry into the gifted program). My mom couldn't remember if the score was 145 or 154, so I've always gone with the former.
