Our hard drive crapped out on us and DH couldn't get two years worth of pictures off of it, so we brought it to a husband of a friend of mine to try to get the pics off. He ended up being able to. I was sooo happy that we recovered the two years worth of pictures till I realized there was boob pictures on there of myself!!! I had a breast reduction last may and I had my "before" pictures on there. I am absolutely MORTIFIED!!!! It's not like I had big perky breasts, they were huge breasts they went down to my belly button.

At least it was someone you knew & not a total stranger at a computer store. I bet he didn't look through all the pics anyway, probably just retrieved the files.

Yikes! Although I bet the friend wasn't interested in scrolling through someone else's mostly boring (to him) family photos, so maybe he didn't see them.

On a positive note, at least you use the word "mortified" correctly, unlike many people!

I am really hoping. I am so freaked out that the pictures are going to pop up on some website somewhere. Wouldn't be so bad except my face is in the pics!

I doubt it....they were in a folder seperate folder (only seperate folder in the pictures folder) that said Ängelas Surgery Pics"

How do most people use the word mortified incorrectly?

A lot of people use it instead of "horrified," like they'll say, "I was mortified to walk into my house and see a dead body on the floor." Yeah ... how embarrassing!

I was wondering how the word was misused, too.

I really think he probably didn't see the pics. He probably just retrieved them and didn't look through every picture!

I'd never think to open a file titled surgery pictures. I'd assume it had pictures of a healing surgical site, or something like that. Doesn't sound like something I'd want to see.

And that he was able to retrieve the pictures. I'd have been devestated at the loss of 2 years worth of pictures.

Yes, that. OBVIOUSLY very personal (and possibly gory) photos. It would be extremely tactless and rude to do it, and if he did he ought to be ashamed and never ever bring it up.

If it makes you feel any better, my sister and mother saw me walking around in my bedroom almost entirely naked yesterday, because DH helpfully opened the curtains. *sigh*

Yeah, I really think he didn't look at them. He probably just moved all the files over.

And if someone asked me to retrieve pics from a computer for them. I would go to great lengths NOT to look, because I don't want to see anything I don't want to see!!!!!

If he did open a picture to make sure they were recovered correctly (I don't know if that's even necessary though), I can't imagine he'd choose surgery pics. If I were forced into a situation like that, I'd try to choose a sample pic that seemed really innocuous: '3rd Birthday Party" or "Thanksgiving Dinner" or something along those lines.

I think the fact that they were in a special file entitled "Surgery Pictures" makes it even less likely that he looked at them. As others have said, that's the type of picture file that most people, especially friends, would avoid looking at unless you specifically asked them to look at it for some reason. And if for some reason he did actually see them? He's probably as embarrassed about it as you are and will never, ever, in a million years, mention it. If they had been just mixed in with your regular family photos it would be more likely that he saw them on accident.

My DH does data recovery for a living, and I can assure you that he never looks through the pics. He's trying to get it done as quickly as possible, so he might click on ONE pic at the front of the first album in the first folder or something, just to make sure they came through, but he definitely doesn't dig through them.

The only time that changed was when he went to a client call for a warranty repair, and Dell wanted him to pull the hard drive and send it back to them, but the client was suddenly VERY nervous about it and started backing out, saying he didn't need it fixed. DH got suspicious and talked him into it, took it home and looked through it. Sure enough, there was what looked like 'younger age' porn on there. Whether or not it was legal/illegal we don't know, he called Dell about it, and they had him turn it over to the PD and we never heard from anyone about it after that.

But standard pics with no reason to look? Nope. Way too much effort, I swear!

My dh has done picture pull off old hard drives, similar situations. He checks to make sure that two or three pictures open - ie, it worked correctly, but he does not look through the pictures. For one reason, most people have hundreds of pictures on their HD. Also, he's very matter of fact about it.

Yep, I will support the opinion that the files were likely never opened. However, I can certainly sympathize with the way you are feeling. When my computer needed to be recovered it had weekly nude pregnancy photos as well as full gyno shots of the birth. And the data recovery was done by somebody we know.

Yeah, my computer crashed last winter, and I was a little concerned that the "friend of a friend" who recovered my files might have seen the very graphic shots of DD2's birth-- there are plenty of crowning baby shots that leave little to the imagination, as well as boobs galore! That situation would have made him a bit too familiar with me, KWIM? But I got to thinking about it, and decided that there was no way this guy wanted to open a photo folder titled "(DD2's) Birth."

About me: I  caffix.giftreehugger.gifcold.gifknit.gifphotosmile2.gif, and read.gif. Oh, and I'm dizzy.gif with love.gif for DH and DCx3!

Oh, mama, I feel you.
Here's my story, it might make you feel a bit better (a coulda been worse of sorts...)
Years ago, my old hardrive crapped out. The whole computer was crap, TBH. Luckily, there wasn't anything on it (that I could remember... ) that was important and not backed up. So I gave it to a friend. To have, to tinker around with.

Fastforward a few years. Said friend and I are at a cocktail party. He's had a bit to drink and makes some crack about a body mod I have that, to my knowledge, he didn't know about. After much prodding, he finally admits that he *ahem* enjoyed the graphic risque pics that he happened upon of a previous DP and I.
I had completely forgotten they were on the dead computer.

Mortified, indeed. Luckily, years have passed and we can joke about it without me turning a million shades of red. (also luckily- said XDP never found out about the accidental pic sharing)

Reading your story, it sounds like he probably won't/didn't open them. and, hopefully, if he did, he will have the tact to never mention it to you.

and the clarity to see and stop this now
