It has been settled. We are doing family pictures this year.

Last time, we did two poses - a normal one and one in terrible Christmas sweaters with the dog dressed up as a Christmas jester. It was pretty sweet.

I need an idea that is that good, but obviously different enough so that it is funny. Any ideas?

What about getting bunch of different Christmas head bands/hats like this, this, this, this.

I think that could be pretty cute and funny! Especially if you could get a bunch of different ones.

Hope, check out my life at http://thethriftyqueenspeaks.com

A family we know does this -- they've done:
-- horrible, "formal" portrait done at Walmart with one of the fake cheesy Cmas backgrounds. I think they all wore variations of Cmas plaid. Totally hilarious. (And my friend said the photographer didn't get it at all that they were doing it as a joke.)
--Then the next year they all wore Snuggies and were on the couch.
--Last year they did a nice, outdoor family photo with the wrong dad. (So real dad wasn't in the photo at all.) Seriously. It was unbelievable. I giggled about it for days. ALthough I can imagine this is definitely not for most families!

One year we did my son, cat and dog all in reindeer antlers with the wagon, and that was pretty fun.

Can't wait to hear what you decide!

This is totally up our alley - I could probably find some horrific Christmas plaid items at the thrift store!

My sisters did one with those disguise glasses one year (y/k, with the moustache & eyebrows).

You could do the family asleep in bed in xmas pj's, or the backs of your heads watching a classic holiday movie.

My friend did one with the funny glasses. Not the moustache ones, the ones with the crazy eyeballs on the lenses. Then they all sat grouped together in a formal pose, but no one smiled (even the 2 year old). It was hysterical!

I'm sure the kids would go for it, but the dog might get pissy.

I've always wanted to recreate the scene from Christmas Vacation where the FBI bursts in and everyone has to freeze. However, Ellen has her hand on Clark's crotch so I'm not sure how Christmas Friendly that would be. To tone it down, I thought it would be fun for everyone to dress as a character from that movie, with cousin Eddie being prominent.

I LOVE the hillarious idea of doing the formal walmart pose.

Yes, but apparently some of the older generation did not appreciate it and were really tsk-tsking! The rest of us can't WAIT to see what they do this year. It is a fabulous tradition!

If it is good, you totally have to share!

I have decided on the Christmas plaid. It feels right for our fam, plus the fact that I can thrift store the whole thing for $10 makes it perfect. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

I wish I could acquire a random extra kid. That would be hilarious!

These are hilarious!  A couple years ago I was trying to get a formal picture of the kids in front of the Christmas tree and my son started picking his nose and then his little sister copied him.  I almost put it on the Christmas card with something along the lines of "Have a good Christmas, whether you've been NAUGHTY or nice!"

friends did one a few years ago where the little guy was on the potty and the rest of the family lined up as if they were all on potties too.  there were several grouchy faces.  i found it terribly funny.

the stand-in dad is pretty good too!

i think i like the idea of acquiring an extra kid for our picture!

I hesitate to post this one because no one ever thinks it's as funny as I do, but I knew a couple years back who was into hunting, and they photoshopped a picture of themselves in their hunting gear with two deer heads at their feet, but swapped their own heads with the deer heads so that it looked like a couple of clothed deer had hunted them.

I know, I know, it's in poor taste and obviously not family friendly, and I'm not AT ALL into hunting, but ... I thought it was hilarious! bag.gif

Instead of the wrong dad why not include some random person just in the shot? Like a coworker or friend that the rest of the family doesn't know.

I was thinking the same thing- standing behind all of you with his hands on your shoulders like part of the family- just some random dude.

It would be so hilarious if it was someone in uniform, like a McDonald's or Best Buy employee.

Do you have a McDonalds or KFC with the statue? Like we have some around here with Ronald McDonald sitting on a bench, or there is a KFC that has the Colonel sitting on a bench. you could all go in there and take a picture. That would be hilarious!

I just did photos for a family of 7 at a beatiful spot in the mountains by a spring fed creek....with the fall leaves - it was lovely...

Well, when we got home & looked at them on the comp, my 5yo ds is hiding/lurking in every shot! No one noticed - even though there were 15 of us all together, and we were reviewing the shots on the camera! It's so funny...he's looking out from under the picnic table the family is sitting on! And when they are at the brick wall along the stream, he's in the background pointing a stick like a gun!

That is so funny!  Our dog is like that - she tries to worm her way into every picture.  She always looks so stoic and out-of-place, it is almost as if she photoshopped herself in them!
