My 12 year old wants colorful short (ankle) socks.  She likes to mix and match them.  But perfers not to have holiday themes.  Were to buy, inexpensive.  I don't want to spend to much because she "looses" them.

I got a bunch from Target for a dollar a pair.  They are ankle socks but they are pretty thin.  I still like them and they are cute!  Just in the regular sock aisle/area.

Here we go to either the shoe store where they have an eternal sale on colourful socks, or to a store like Target or Zellars. DD is the same way, she insists that socks can't match and they only come in pairs so that if you lose one set of mismatched socks, you have another one just like it.

These are really not inexpensive at all, but they do come 3 to a "pair", so at least you've got an extra!

I love the "life is too short to wear matching socks" attitude!

DD has always preferred mismatched socks. Matching is boring. Which is the theory she applies to all of her clothing choices.

Anyway, I found a set similar to these, but with 3 socks in each package. Brilliant concept, since she is also constantly losing socks. I can't recall the brand or where I bought them, but it would have been a department store or Costco or some place like that. I buy most of our socks at Costco in bulk packages.

AC Moore if you have one.  Target and the Dollar store are a good bet too.  Also, our Goodwill often has new socks that are colorful.
