I thought the big SUV stroller wheels were supposed to make it easier to push them through sand?  I have a bike trailer with big wheels that converts to a stroller- and I tend to use that in sketchier terrain like mud/sand/muck.  That thing is HUGE, but I love it for carrying two kids and a couple bags of groceries!

I know I've taken my BOB to the beach and had no problem pushing on the sand. Maybe West Coast sand is different from East Coast sand.

Oh my, don't bring up the west coast- east coast thing. Remember what happened to tupac?

fwiw, the big double jogging stroller I had worked in the desert sand that surrounds my house.  I would have brought it on vacation to the beach if it wasn't such a pain to travel with.

Since the discussion has finally veered back to the stroller/sand thing, I was going to say zillions of pages ago that maybe many of the tourists just have never visited a beach with kids before and didn't know what to expect. We go to the beach all the time, and I've streamlined the process tremendously over the past couple of years. But I can see how a family vacationing at the beach might lug their stroller the first day, immediately think, "WTH were we thinking bringing this thing?!?", and go back the next day with pared-down supplies once they get the hang of it.

I lived where there were east coast rocks.  There was occasionally sand, but the coast of Maine isn't really all about white sandy beaches and blue glistening water.  It's more seaweed, rocks, stones, lighthouses, and occasional patches of sand.  *shrug*

It won't be a problem so long as people remember that the West Coast is better than the East Coast... At least in Canada.

I'm about to fall off my chair laughing.  I have this image of a flash mob of moms with double strollers completely blocking all of the sidewalks in a large urban area and singing some rap song about being hated by society.  I am not the one to pick which song, because my knowledge of rap is pretty limited.

I'm having a blast thinking about it though. :)

My advice may not be appropriate for you. That's ok. You are just fine how you are and I am the right kind of me.

I know this thread has taken a turn for the awesome, but I just have to say that watching the youtube video reminded me of my general feeling towards other peoples judgement of me as a parent....whatever.  I do a lot of things that look stupid to the outside world.  And I'm sure people judge me all the time.  But you know what, I just don't care.  I'm good with the decisions I make.

I read to page 11, and then I just said "screw it, Ill post how I feel. I cant wait for these damn ads to load anymore and mozilla adblock makes it hard to navigate MDC."

I have a huge honkin' giant wheel stroller. I seldomly take it anywhere, but I needed it to be able to wheel my kid around on my land. Big wheels= able to go on grassy hills and all over 11 acres with no problems. Did I need the one with the mp3 player attachment, no. But geeze, the way my kid calms down to music I sure do wish I had spent the extra $40.

I hate going to the state fair and seeing the huge strollers parked in the middle of the walkway, unattended, with a heaping pile of stuff the mom has bought, and her kid running all over the place. However, how in the world is that mama supposed to hold the stuff she buys and a kid?

Ive been to VA beach several times and Id take a stroller, because when we leave the beach we are going walking up the strip and I dont want to stop back by the hotel room. Id wear her if I didnt also have to carry a bag of towels, a diaper bag, and towels and sunscreen for me and DH. Stroller sure would come in handy to carry all that stuff and free up my hands while we were walking around downtown.

I feel like moms make different desicions on vacation than they normally would too. I hardly ever take a stroller anywhere other than around my house, but if we were going on vacation, itd make a lot of sense. And, I only have ONE stroller. Im not buying a smaller one just to appease other people.

By the way, the movie with Hugh Grant is called "9 months".

I remember seeing Stroller Strides type groups at the mall and I thought it would be cool to show up with a Hummer of a stroller.  Something super HUGE and flashy.  And I'd leave it in the middle of the aisle while I stretched out my blubbery limbs.  I need to be a part of some hidden camera show.  orngbiggrin.gif

Because your stroller takes up way a lot of space. If you keep that in mind as you push it and avoid taking it in very crowded areas if you can manage it, then anyone who judges you is wrong, but daily I am surrounded by women who do NOT do this and it's detrimental to all of us.

And now, I will bow out, because I can see that I'm offending people, which was not my intention... I was intending to explain how posh strollers have become a symbol of American greed along the lines of SUVs amongst many people I am acquainted with.

I love my SUV.  It hauls all our stuff, especially when we go camping.  Does it make it more appropriate that I have been in serious car accidents and have a justifiable fear of small sedans?  Does it up my cool factor that it can take E-85?  SUPER JUDGMENTAL.
