Holy. Crap. Has anyone else ever had this happen before?

I just found a MOLDY TAMPON in my brand new package of Kotex Tampons. Yeah, you read that right - moldy. Straight out of the box, in it's sealed little packaging ... moldy. Bad moldy.

See for yourself!

OneSmaller.jpg

TwoSmaller.jpg

Can you even BELIEVE THAT??? :yuck: :yuck:

And to think, if I hadn't accidentally popped half the tampon out of the applicator while I was getting it out of the packaging, I would have NEVER KNOWN. I am freaked right out! Makes you wonder how many times things like this happen to our tampons and we don't have a clue.

Needless to say, Kotex got an earful from me. Waiting to hear back.  UGGGHHHHH! So freaking gross!

Here's a link to my blog post about it in case you want to share on FB/email/etc with other women you know who may be using tampons with an applicator:http://www.parrforthecourse.com/2012/03/tale-of-moldy-tampon.html

I know I don't post here often anymore but I do lurk. There are lots of women here so I thought I would share my disgusting find with you because I'm trying to let as many women know about this as possible. I am so grossed out! Definitely time to look in to alternatives to tampons. I use mama cloth but didn't have great success with the Diva Cup but I'm sure there are better options than moldy tampons. Ewwwww!

Well, I just updated my blog with their response. Even more concerning because they chalk it up to being completely normal. Sick, sick, sick. And you can tell it's happened before because they brushed it right off! Red flag for me.

Oh my lordy that is SO GROSS!!! And I love their reply to you. "We are very sorry that you were disappointed with your recent purchase of our product...and apologize for your concern. ." Not: we are sorry that our product was contaminated or that we may have endangered your health. Very careful apology, if you ask me. A nice way of quasi-apologizing without owning up to anything.

Looks like I won't be using that brand anymore. That is just too gross for me. I'll stick with OB where I can see the product and make sure it is okay.

Holy crap!  That is soooooooo disgusting!  Like beyond disgusting.  And their response is laughable.  It's a mold similar in nature to that found on vegetables and baked goods?  Yeah, that makes me feel a lot better. NOT. I generally try not to shove moldy food up vagina.  Wow.  I can't believe that they are aware of the problem, and it's still happening, and there hasn't been a recall.

Eh, my vagina is old and moldy anyway.  But if this is true... and I say that because it reminds me of the bras that cause oozing sores, then gross.  If it's not, then what's the angle?

And I'm not really believing this by looking at the packaging.  I don't pop out the tampon from the applicator with the packaging still around it.  Not to say it can't happen... just saying... you know?

Ok well I just looked into this more and I really hope they figure out what kind of mold this is.  And I would really like to know how often this kind of thing happens.  Super glad you didn't insert that thing.

It's a reusable menstrual cup made out of silicon. You insert it and then take it out and dump the contents a few times a day. It's way easier and cleaner than one would think by reading about it. It is seriously life changing.

This is everywhere.... thanks for letting people know how gross those are!

I use either cloth pads that I made from an old towel (SO comfortable...) or if I'm in town, organic cotton disposable pads. I had the diva cup and loved it, but now I'm in the mood for something else.

And when I say I 'made' them... I cut up an old towel and fold them in half. Voila!

Gross gross gross.

I am so very glad that I stopped using applicator tampons ten years ago. Ordering Amazon.com Subscribe and Save organic tampons, no applicator is a great way to get a BFP!!!!
